Sunday Stealing-A Story Teller's Meme

We Found this gem  from Paula Kumert of the blog "A Story Teller With a Camera". She states that she stole it from Kelly, but that’s as far as we go. It's like doing magic. You can't intrigue if you explain how it's done. Finding the original author of any meme or survey is too much work for this old blogger. So I'll just yell out:

Cheers to all of us thieves!!

1. What are your current obsessions? Sims Medieval, Walmart brand, Boom Boom Cherry ice cream sandwiches, and killing fruit flies.

2. What are you listening to? Nothing in particular, Mr BC and I are very eclectic.

3. Which item from your wardrobe do you wear most often?
Jeans and a cute tee shirt with little pink flamingos. I also like my capris with little anchors all over them.  I am into prints this summer and I have always liked flamingos.
4. What are you reading? Book four of GOT, A Feast for Crows. I am really slogging through this book...It doesn't seem as readable as the first 3, as not much is going on as in the other books.  I hope 5 is better, if I ever get finished with this one.

5. What’s for dinner? Turkey burgers and french fries.

6. What was the last thing you bought? Groceries.....yesterday along with a set box, of Rubber Maid storage containers.  I am going to toss any that don't have lids, that seems like most of them.
7. Guilty pleasure? Homemade Berry Pie or Cobbler.

8. What training did you get and how do you make a living? Three years of college.  I was a Bankerchick for 27+ years, most of the time riding the Stagecoach. I am now retired. I use to joke that I use to drive the stagecoach.

9. If you could go back in time, knowing what you know now, and choose a different career path, what would you train to do? Veterinary medicine specializing in dogs.
10. What’s your best time of day? Morning before Mr BC gets up....good alone time, not having to be responsible for anything except enjoying the view.

Last Fall

 20. What do we still not know about you? I have been doing this meme and Saturday 9 almost since I have been blogging, so there isn't a lot you don't know.  Ask Mr BC....or my kids.

Ch..Ch...Changes-Saturday 9

No.  It is who you are.  I believe that everyone has something that is exceptional about them.

Stuck in the Middle-Saturday 9

1. In romance, have you ever been stuck in the middle with someone?
I probably have.... but I was very trusting. Outside of romance, I have always played the (Wo)Man in the Middle, I am a negotiator at heart.

2. Which current commercial is the currently most annoying to you on TV or radio? Too many to count.  There are so many local  ads on TV here in middle earth, and they are generally awful and need to be muted.

3. What do you think is the most difficult task when it comes to Spring cleaning?
Moving the furniture to vacuum under it.  Baseboards. I really don't do spring cleaning.  I do it all through the year, if I do it at all.

4. What area is your expertise in?
I do a few things well. but I really excel at being a Grandma. DD1 says Лука is always saying "pertend you're Gramma". I also have some good DIY skills and will have a chance this weekend to get started again. I did a great job with the flowers at DD1's wedding, we did most everything ourselves.

5. Have you ever bumped into a former lover/friend  and found out they were now gay or straight depending on your relationship with them?
Yes. I wrote about it here.

6. When was the last time that you got stabbed in the back?
I usually got good reviews when I worked for the bank, with the exception of one manager I had, about 15years ago, who use to harangue me about my class surveys.  It was a poorly written survey with only 4 points, which would average out low if anyone scored you a two or lower, and surveys can be somewhat subjective anyway. Once we got a better written survey, I generally got better scores. I wouldn't call that back stabbing, just poor management. However, the one time I internally posted for a manager position I got ambushed. When they got around to letting me know that I didn't get the job, the center manager, my manager, and the person who got the job, delivered the news. Then they proceded to let me know what a bad trainer I was, how could I expect to get promoted if I couldn't do the job I already had and here was what I needed to do to fix it, etc. I eventually went to work under that new manager, and flourished, she was such a good boss. Over the years, I realized that it was good that I didn't get that particular job but at the time I really feel that I should have been told I didn't get the job. and then if they wanted to improve performance, have another conversation. I learned some good management skills then, even if they didn't.

7. For a few years in a row, you receive a nice tax refund: do you make an adjustment with your payroll deduction so they’ll take less, or do you leave it that way so that you can continue to receive the big check every spring?
I never had this issue in California, I actually had to have extra money taken out.  When it did happen, I never change the deduction.

8. Do you remember the most naughty night of your life? (And do tell a bit, if comfortable)
I assume we mean sex here? Yes, I remember, that is all you get! This is a family blog, About the only thing naughty I have done, was telling my mother I was going one place (a club meeting) and went cruising  Bob's Big Boy with my friends. I didn't lie alot because I was not very good at it.

9. How would you handle yourself if you were regularly in the press and tabloids?
I might like it for a while, because who doesn't like being the center of attention. I think it could only be good if I was in the press for good reasons. Negative press is very tiresome.

Mama Kat's Writer's Workshop

Roses are Red,
Violets are Blue,
No Body's Sweeter,
Than R**** M****!

"Dad, we're JUST friends!"..... Eyeroll.

R and I met at church when I was about 15.  He was cute, had a Texas accent, 16, and was taller and skinnier than me.  I will admit to a crush on him, at the first of our friendship. I will also share that he gave me my first hickey, an experiment that did not involve any kissing, but caused no end of giggling and much speculation by my dad and mom.

We would talk on the phone for hours almost every night, he made me laugh, as he was funny and ironic but some times sad and angry. We shared lots of secrets but this was 1964 an innocent time for me. I got my drivers licence and I got a car when I was 16.5, we would go to the movies, church, youth meetings, etc. His parents loved me, they may have thought we were an item too. However, it was clear to me when I graduated High School, that he was one of my best friends.

My parents finally accepted, probably with relief,  we were just friends, as I started dating others, met Mr BC and got engaged. R and I drifted as we got older and I got wiser.  I actually never saw him again after my wedding. Which saddens me.

Mama Kat's prompt is: Think about your closest male friend in high school…if you had married him (or her) how would your life be different right now? Since this was a relationship, that would not have ended in marriage, it is not hard to speculate that we would be miserable. I do know that R was not always the happy individual, he seemed to be and as I would later discover.

At my 20 year High School Reunion, L, a guy that I had known since 4th grade, was proudly announcing to everyone he spoke to, that he was gay.  This did not come as a surprise to anyone, but in 1985, it was becoming the thing to do. Later in the evening, he sidled up to me, and shared conspiratorially, did I know that he and R had been Lovers for several years before, but were no longer a couple?  He seemed to be expecting shock value from his little announcement; from me. He also indicated , oddly, during the conversation that R was always, talking about me. I was surprised at this, a little, but, I certainly did not give him the reaction for which he seemed to be hoping.

I asked him what R was doing now and told him that if he spoke to him, would he give him my phone number and gave L my business card.,  With the information  L gave me, I did try to find him, but to no avail.  I never heard from either of them again.  This was the 80's and I certainly hope the reason I was unable to locate him was not because of HIV.  I tried looking for him again as I contemplated this prompt, but came up blind alleys again. I certainly hope he has found happiness and contentment in his life. I am greatful for the fun and games he brought to our misspent youth!
