Wednesday Hodgepodge

1. In two or three sentences tell us what Veteran's Day means to you?
Mr BC is a veteran of 6 years in the Navy, the last 2 years we married and shared his shore duty in Key West, Fl. I like that whenever, he wears his Navy baseball hat someone, almost always, thanks him for his service.  We try to remember to do the same.
2. What's your favorite film with a patriotic theme woven into the storyline?
Mrs Miniver

3. Flu shot-yes or no? If you answered no, do you plan to get a flu shot? If not, why not? Have you ever had the flu?  Yes, now that I am older, I get one every year.  I had the flu several years ago.

4. I've seen lots of people posting pictures of their Christmas trees up and decorated. Many stores have had Christmas on display since well before Halloween. Red cups are back at Starbucks, sans the holiday decor, and that has some people up in arms. What are your thoughts on all the holiday ruckus this second week of November?
It pains me that fundamentalists, read something evil and conspiratory into everything.  It is a red cup everyone. In past years they had always printed secular Christmas imagery on the cup anyway and most of those are adopted from the pagan anyway.  So tiresome!
Randy Bish.
5. What 'critter' are you most afraid of encountering unexpectedly? Why that one?
Skunks, and deer on the highway at night....here in the hinterlands.  We live in town but I have seen a dead deer most every week, since it has started to get darker in the evening.

6. Do you like building things? What's the last thing you 'built'?
Lego towers with my grandsons.
7. In keeping with this month's theme of gratitude...what are you most grateful for that brings beauty to your daily life?
Living where the leaves turn in the fall.  Walking the dogs has been a pleasure this fall. This past week or two, has been lovely in our area.  Really fiery trees, even in my yard.

8.  Insert your own random thought here.
In past years years I have been grateful for our mutual health....Mr BC and I.....This year I am grateful that Mr BC has had such good care, while being in the hospital for the last....almost 2 weeks. He went in with pneumonia and they found some serious kidney disease that he will be dealing with the rest of his life.  This has been a real kick in the butt for us. I just would like him home ASAP.

  1. Cute cartoon with the turkey and Santa. Thanks for the smile.

I am praying for Mr. BC now, for a return to health and ability to come home soon. Two weeks in the hospital is a very long time. So sorry to read about this big change in your lives. May the Lord give you all you need to cope.

    If spiders are a critter...then its spiders...ewwww
I must admit...Mrs Miniver is one of my all time favourites...I.have seen it so many times I could probably recite the script
As for the Starbucks fiasco...well trees, snowmen or santa arent really the the real reason for the season...the clue is in the word Christmas. And hey...red is a Christmas colour...right? Anyway..I always thought that even with people...forget the packaging...its whats inside that matters
Try to enjoy your week...will be thinking of you

  3. I've never watched Mrs. Minever...now I'm curious.

That turkey cartoon was drawn by a local guy. I've met him a few times and he's here on Facebook if you like his work. He usually posts his cartoons a day or two before they hit the papers. His name is Randy Bish.

I'm not exactly afraid of meeting deer, but I'm a lot more cautious than I used to be. I hit and ran over one with the school bus two weeks ago. :(

  4. Oh, I'm so sorry to hear about Mr. BC. I wish him a speedy recovery so he can get home soon. I, too, am glad he's had good care. That means all the world.
I just saw a short report about the Starbucks cups and how it all started. There's a "known" facebooker who posts things to his page just to get a rise out of people. This is something that supposedly started with him. He made a video sharing his "outrage" over these cups, the media picked it up, and the rest is this apparent outrage the religious has over these cups. This is what is wrong with our "news" anymore. This guy is essentially a troll who tries to get a rise out of people and our lame media can't seem to just ignore it. I've seen several articles written by devout Christians who can't understand the fuss. So it all seems to be blown out proportion by our dependable news outlets!!
Scary on the deer. I've heard so many stories about accidents involving deer. They seem so delicate, but they do some damage. We don't have that issue here. I can't even imagine having one wander onto the road when I'm driving. Yikes!
