The Oscar Goes to.... Boobies!/MKWW

It is easy to say that Seth MacFarlane was Not the Best Host, ever, but equally hard to say he was the Worst Host ever. I am not the audience they were going after with his selection, however to say I did not laugh would be incorrect.  I even laughed at the 7th grade boy humor of the Boobies Song and loved the sock puppets.  MacFarlane is certainly likable, but a lot of his humor is more palatable when coming out of the mouth of Stewie or Ted rather than IN YOUR FACE at the Oscars. Not as bad as Gervaise (who I also think is funny) He certainly pulled off the musical numbers, which I really enjoyed. I wish we could resurrect Bob Hope, he was sly, funny, topical and I don't think anyone came away from the event mad or insulted by him.

Magic Spell \ Write on Edge/Trifecta

Magic Spell-Forever Arts

Feigning a headache; Ariadne sent regrets to Grandfather about missing the evening meal. Dismissing Tilde, she worked alone in her chamber, gathering the elements needed for her spell. The evening is warm, fearing that Grandfather’s allies and cronies might be about the courtyard below, she moved to close the window.

Call Me....Maybe Not-Saturday 9

1) Do you owe anyone a phone call?
I always owe someone a call so the answer is Yes.  I don't really like the phone.
2) Do you still have a landline phone?
Yes, although I am thinking of giving it up.  The taxes are almost as much as the initial bill.

I’m surprised to hear you say that I am coughing very badly, because I have been practicing all night.” John Philpot Curran

http://www.reinventingtheordinary.com/
Well I am down but not yet out, However, I may be losing the Cold War.  Somewhere, I picked up a bug not unlike the monster above.  I am coughing, choking and sneezing a storm.  The mucus family has taken up residence in my body and
is sending invitations to the housewarming.  Gwennie is delighted as there are tissues to rip apart in waste baskets that she can reach with her long pointy muzzle. Totem has discovered that I am not a comfortable lap to sit on or snuggle with and jumps off my lap or the bed in disgust. Mr BC has learned that I don't find him as funny when I don't feel good and the guest bedroom is the place to be when I start hacking in the middle of the night. He decided to start out there tonight.  I am a fuzzy purple footed flu monster. The problem is that even though I will be feeling better in a week, my sleep and that of the rest of the family will be disturbed until Spring.

Hair Bands and More-Saturday9

1) Do you have a favorite "hair metal band?
I had to look up what a Hair Metal Band is, and I recognized some names on the list.  The 80's was my DD's time but I did hear the music by default when we were in the car. I would have to say Van Halen although, I have a special spot for Queen.

No Embellishment Here-Trifextra

For this weekend's challenge, Trifextra is asking us to include some hyperbole in our piece. It doesn't have to be the whole piece, but it needs to be in there, and we're looking for 33 words, as usual. Here is mine.

We are apart;
I feel a hole in my heart, only they can fill.
Then I see them again,

Only the most beautiful children in the Universe?

This is a Grandma’s humble opinion.

Empowerment-Trifecta- Write on Edge Challenges

July 1st, 2010 by Ed Grabianowski Robot Viking
She is watched constantly and never allowed to wander, since guards noted the broken seal on Mama’s former chambers. They report to the Duke, her grandfather, that nothing appeared to be disturbed. So the secrets of the chest are still hers.

Ariadne lived a marvelous life before these awful times. Growing up she rarely saw the old man. Her life revolved around Mama and Papa’s rooms, courtyard and a tiny bewitching copse of trees surrounding a grassy hillock. Here, she played happily.

For Swearing Outloud-Sunday Stealing

Click for attribution

21: Would you swear in front of your parents?
I often said dammit or hell if I were upset or angry, but nothing stronger.

22: Which continents have you been on?
North America, Europe, Asia.

23: Do you get motion sickness? Any horror stories?
I use to but not as an adult,,,no tales to tell.  I did get sea sick when I was a room mother and went with DD2 class on a field trip.  I was not very helpful,  kids could have fallen of the boat and I would never have noticed.  Good thing they were wearing life vests.

TRIFEXTRA

This weekend we are venturing into uncharted territories once again. This Trifextra isn't so much a writing challenge; it's more of a reading challenge. We want you to scour through your favorite pieces of literature and give us the best 33 words you can find.

You pierce my soul. I am half agony, half hope. Tell me not that I am too late, that such precious feelings are gone for ever.  I offer myself to you again with......

Duck and Cover-Mama Kat's Writer's Worhop

Repinned from Childhood...A THING OF THE PAST...and it's NOT where I thought I left it... by Kayola Skinner
As a Baby Boomer, I also have the distinction of being a kid right in the middle of the Cold War.  I remember we practiced duck and cover in elementary school, but it was more fun than worrisome.  I really did not become aware of nuclear holocaust until 1962.

The Enchantment-Trifecta Writing Challenge

The fire is fading. Light still flickered around him softening the ancient features of a face recently twisted in anger, the softness, only illusion.
His words still echo, “Ariadne, you will! It is your duty!”
She answered softly, “I don’t love him.”

“That is of no consequence,” he thundered!

“Yes, Grandfather,” whispering as she retreated into the shadows.

Ariadne did not choose this path; it was a consequence of life, thrust upon her by her birth and sex.

A Day at the Opera-Saturday 9

Not a Diva

1) Have you ever been to the opera?
No, I am not sure I would enjoy a whole opera, they are hard to understand, and while I appreciate most music, I really prefer the tenors to the sopranos. Wait Les Miserables is an Opera in English so I guess so.
