1) This was Ringo's first big hit as a solo artist. Who is your favorite member of his old, very famous group, The Beatles? I really liked Ringo.  He seemed very funny and quirky. Of course, I thought Paul was dreamy. I love them still.  I would have been one of those girls at Ed Sullivan.  
  

2) In this song, Ringo sings that you have to pay your dues. Do you belong to any organizations that require you to pay dues? We pay dues to the Greater Ozark British Motoring Club. 

3) He also sings, "you don't have to shout." When did you last raise your voice? Probably, in frustration, at Totem....He is back to his fussy eating habits.  Last week he was looking for stuff to eat, this week he looks at it....and walks away. I 

4) Ringo has two piercings on each ear and one tattoo on each arm. Do you have more piercings or body art? Just conventionally pierced ears. 
 

5) Ringo gave his first wife, Maureen, a one-of-a-kind birthday gift. Frank Sinatra made a recording of "The Lady Is a Tramp" personalized to her. Tell us about one of your most memorable birthday celebrations. It was not a  celebration for me but we were.....many years ago, able to throw my Dad a surprise party for his 60th. We lived in a great house for parties and everyone was there.

6) Ringo appeared as Mr. Conductor on Thomas the Tank Engine. He recorded the narration for the entire first season in just a week. Tell us what you did last week.  Not a dang thing, except feel bad.  Fall allergies are really bad for me this year.  It has been raining on and off for a couple of days which should, dampen down the allergens. I was looking forward to a weekend outing, which was cancelled for us, by Mr BC getting sick.

7) Ringo also did the narration for Ladybird children's books. Do you like audiobooks? We listen to audio books when ever we can, on long drives in the RV.

8) As a boy in Liverpool, Ringo loved watching American westerns. His passion for the genre is reflected in the outfit he's wearing on the sleeve for "It Don't Come Easy." Do you like cowboy movies/shows? We are currently hooked on Longmire.

Getting Ready for the Holidays Edition-Friday Fragments

I currently don't have a working vacuum and the weather this week has kept me from getting to the repair shop...No vacuum during the holidays.....Uggh.  I  resorted to using the shop vacuum.  I was not totally effective.

I still am without a new computer battery, and Mr BC and I will share the charger adapter, until we get out to CA.  I ordered on from Amazon but sent it to DD1 by mistake.  Anyway, I look at the computer, on the couch, close to Mr BC in his recliner. When the puppies want to move from his lap to mine, they don't jump down and walk over they try to climb over the technology, instead.

We will be doing Thanksgiving with DD2 on Wednesday since it is her day off and she is working Thanksgiving.  She works and I worked in an environment where we had to work many holidays.  I never really minded as we could usually choose the hours we wanted and got really good holiday pay for the time.  As a mom with grown kids and her as a single it seemed worth it.  I am not really sure what the fuss is.  In many careers folks often have to work the holidays, there is usually a trade off of some kind. We were still able to have the family time. Post like this are all over my Facebook. I think these folks might be a little sanctimonious! 

Also, this post is something I found on Facebook as well. I think my friend and everyone else has the right to say this to anyone, it is an expression of their beliefs. But there are others out there who celebrate a more secular holiday or even a different one.

I wanted to post this in answer. I wish we were able to just say thank you. Why can't we celebrate the way we want to and respond positively to make others feelings appreciated and well wished as well without making a fuss.

• Have you ever gotten a pet from a rescue? Yes our boy, Totem is a rescue, he was a casualty from the housing slump in CA.  His family could not keep him when they lost their house. I am getting ready to volunteer at the local Humane Society.  We have orientation on Thursday!

The reason we call him Totem that he sits like this....a Totem Pole!

Stormy Weather-Saturday Nine

1) Do noisy storms scare you?
I love Thunder Storms when I am cozy in my house.  They are a little scarier if I am driving or outdoors when it happens. Now the dogs are another story....Totem will be under the couch and Gwennie will be under the bed...and not even food will get them out.

Who is your favorite artist (Any field.): Jean-Claude Picot, he paints lively colors of the Cote D’Azure, I have 2 of his seriolithographs. They are still packed away, one looks similar to the one above. I like them because they have a painting in them similar to the one above.

Describe yourself: I am a short, sweet, slightly overweight Senior Citizen. I have a moderately liberal, independent out look. I tend to be more humanistic in my beliefs. Others can believe in a higher power if they want, as long as they respect that I am unsure. I really don't want their viewpoint on how to believe, impressed upon me.

Gwennie loves the new rug

I am pulling together the bones of the new living room.  The before picture of the ugly, old,  broken couch, was taken many months ago.  It is out on the Veranda now awaiting haul off with the old chair and recliner.  I found the rug this week at a furniture store that was going out of business. It was just what I was hoping for, round. Next on the agenda is putting up the new curtains and decorative rods I already have from Ikea.  They have so many choices of  long curtains and I have high ceilings. The couch was easy to assemble and Mr BC and I had it out of the box and put together in about an hour.  I know it is white but has a good review here for durablilty and you can wash and bleach the cover and change your room up by ordering  another cover.  I am looking for side tables  and accessories all the time.

 

Little Boy Lost

I am participating in Mama Kat's Writers Workshop and I have chosen the prompt.....Share a story about a stray you took in or an animal you once rescued.
I originally posted about Howard in February of 2009......

The newest member of our family is Howard... on the right....Mr. Bankerchick rescued him from traffic on Howard St....a few days after we got back from SB after a week with Лука,. We notified the Humane Society and made posters in the neighborhood. He was matted and starving. We think he's a forclosure dog, just left when owners leave the home. We have lots of them in San Bernardino County. We decided to keep him after we received no inquiries on him. He is a doll, housebroken, friendly, likes to cuddle and now, Gwennie's best friend. The Gwenster was jealous at first but they are now good buddies. We are taking him to the Vet next week for shots and then getting him licensed.  That was Spring, 2009.......

Well we took him to the vet and got a dog licence for him.  He was such a welcome new member of our family.  DD2 gave him a bath one afternoon in April and took off his collar.  I guess that maybe he was a runner, because he escaped from the front patio, Gwennie would have been to big to get out the gate but Howard was mostly fluff so he must have wiggled out.  DD2 scoured the neighborhood looking for him, we backtracked with the Humane Society, looking this time for a lost dog.  We were heartbroken. When we didn't find him after several weeks, we decided all was lost.  I would love to say at this time he came wandering back into our lives, but that was not to be.

We realized with Howard in our lives, that we needed to be a 2 dog family, so we decided to rescue from the Humane Society. We blocked access to the front patio to doggies and went in search of a new dog.  One Saturday, we found TOTEM  and our family was complete. Totem, so glad to find a forever home, has been a dutiful puppy never leaving our side. Even though he sometimes has run out the front door, he comes back when called.  Can't say the same of Gwennie, so we have both of them microchipped.

The pups have really enriched our lives and keep us active. We have decided to help the Humane Society here in Joplin by fostering dogs awaiting a forever home. I am sure I will have many stories to tell as we embark on that experience.

What to do in June-Mama Kat's Writers Workshop

I have been so busy the past few months, that I have neglected my blog. I still read my favorites and try to comment when I can. I checked out Momma Kat's Writers Workshop today and saw a prompt that I can whip out quickly. I chose  Ten To-Dos in June. (inspired by Denise) The first on my list will be:

1.  Close escrow on our house, finish packing and get out of California. This will take up the first half of June.

2. Arrive in Missouri and be mugged by the puppies.  I have been gone for over a month.  I miss them so much.

3.  Find a doctor and dentist in our new town.  I need to have prescriptions refilled and since I swallowed a crown that fell off last month get it replaced, with the new dentist.

4.  Wave good-by and good luck to DD2 who will be moving into her own house.  She has been living with us for quite a while, as she was completing her degree.  She has actually moved in but has been house-sitting for us with the puppies.

5. Run around the house naked.....if I want... and express my own opinions, without getting into a long discussion of how wrong I am.

6.  Watch some television.  I have been without cable and TV since I've been in CA. We turned it off in November and moved the TV to Missouri.  I did leave the WIFI on so we could watch Netflix.

7.  Start unpacking some of our possessions, move out some of my MIL possessions that we have been living with while waiting for my own stuff. Enjoy the new couch we will bring with us from this trip.  Enjoy having our garage back, once the unpacking is done.

8.  Take the pups to a new vet, to get Gwennies teeth cleaned and get heartworm prevention. (we did not have to worry about this in our old home)

9.   Plan a week of vacation for July with the RV.

10.  Really start enjoying our new home and living mortgage free!  Maybe we can start enjoying our retirement!

What Would Gwennie Do?

I chose prompt #4 today at Mama Kat's.  List 7 things your pet thought about today.

 1. “Good morning Gwennie, do you want to go outside?”  Says I.
 Gwennie: ‘Yes, Yes, wiggle wiggle, I love going outside.” “Totem do you want to go outside?” Wiggle, wiggle. Sniff sniff.   “Me first!”  Wiggle, wiggle.

2. “Who’s  hungry?”
Gwennie: “Me mommy, me mommyI  Grrrr, don’t even think about it Totem.  My food!  I love food “
 3. When finished with her food.
Gwennie:  “Was your food good, Totem?  It certainly looks good. You finished Totem?  You’re finished right?  Looks like you are finished, Yum, yours was good too.  What? He was finished Mommy. ”

4. I get up from my chair, with my laptop (plate, magazine, etc) in my hand.

Gwennie, shrinking away.  “Oh, Mommy, danger, danger, that could fall on me, watch out Mommy.  Daddy, mommy is going to drop something on me. Danger”



5.  Any paper rattling sound.
 Gwennie, brown eyes smiling:  “Is that a treat, I love treats. Sounds like a treat.  What’s that in your hand Daddy? Oh, ice cream (sandwich, cookie etc) , I love ice cream.  Can’t you tell by my sad brown eyes that I am so hungry?  Totem, help me with this.”

Gwennie shrinking away again:  “Oh no, a basket of knives and acid, go away.  Oh my.......... Mommy has a basket of snakes and alligators, danger, danger!”

Age: 64 July 24th. Since I have retired I have to admit to it, at least to Social Security and the WHOLE WORLD.

Bed Size: We just downsized to a Queen, a lovely memory foam.  I could do a commercial for Serta. It is perfect.  I haven't slept so good in years.


Chore you hate: Floors, my feet have to stick to them or company is coming before I do anything. Currently I am stuck on the kitchen floor, send in the Merry Maids

Jackawawa Extraordinaire

I am TOTEM, Jackawawa Extraordinaire and luckiest dog in Southern California. You see, I was just enjoying myself with my other family when they just disappeared from my life . I was found and sent to the Riverside Humane Society. ( a great bunch of folks but not mine) I had been there about a week when, Saturday, these three humans and another dog came in to look around. Mom initially looked at me and passed on. Then Sis came along, so I did my totem, while the Pomeranian who was sharing the room with me just barked and barked. While my totem had not worked with others, it worked with Sis and she shouted, “Dad! Come here and look at this one.” The kindest pair of brown eyes I had ever seen, shouted, “Mom, look at this! “

The Totem

I visited with the other dog first, who seemed like a nice Welsh girl, smiled a lot. We got along good, but when she told me what a great home she had and what a soft touch her people were, I knew I had to get me a piece of that…! We then were taken to a room where the five of us were able to visit. Sis, Dad and I knew we were meant for each other but I knew that I had to win over Mom and the Corgi; you see; the other dog seemed curious but aloof, but Mom had mentioned that she did not like Chihuahua’s so I leaped into Mom’s lap and kissed her face and said “I’m not a Chihuahua, I’m a lover! They were all smitten, as was I.

That was over 2 years ago and what adventures we have had. The Welsh pup is good but a little crazy she barks at garbage trucks and then thinks that just because the Queen has Corgi’s she is royalty or something. She loves her groceries just a little too much; mom is always putting her on a diet. Heh, heh.. leaving more treats for me. She also has a strange ritual with the water hose that makes me howl in frustration, don’t get any of that water on me!

Dad and Mom, took me to Missouri, right after Christmas and the chow hound had to stay home. I had Dad all to myself after Mom went home. These humans have a habit of wandering off? I looked all over for her for about a week and then contented myself to snuggling next to dad. The Royal Princess will probably like that snow better that I do, it’s wet you know, and she does have that extra layer of fat!

All in all, I think I have a great life here with these folks, they leave for a while but always come back, the food is good, when Gwynne isn’t standing over me, hoping I will leave her a bit and I sleep in the best bed in the house, right next to Dad. It really is a Dog’s Life.

Gwennie’s Rebuttal 


I knew that I had said too much that first day. Especially when you jumped on everyone, including me trying to kiss-up!

Crazy, humph! I am protecting the home and hearth from great loud noises that go away if I bark loud enough! And Water /Water is keeping me hydrated. I can’t help it if your JackaWAWA ancestors come from desert climes.

Chow hound indeed! I just check out your bowl because you are so picky. A lot of food would go to waste if I did not take care of it.

I am not fond of travel, I am just a homebody. Just so you know, Mom left you and came home to me in January!

I do NOT have an extra layer of fat, I have a double coat. The next time you come sniffing around my curvy hips…well let’s just say SNAP!
