Papa Loves Mama-Saturday 9

Unfamiliar with this week's tune? Then try this. It's not very good quality, and it may have been pulled by the time you get over to it, because Garth doesn't like YouTube videos. Sorry.

1) This song is about a trucking "accident" that was covered extensively in the local paper. What's the big news story in your neighborhood?
Our consolidated high school has built a new sports center. A grand opening celebration is slated for next week, and the public will have a chance to tour the structure, which is capable of withstanding an EF-5 tornado, or 250 mph winds, and can hold about 3,000 people.

2) The action centers around a motel. When is the last time you stayed in a hotel or motel?
DD2 and I spent a weekend in Kansas City last spring to go to Trader Joes.  We stayed in a nice hotel right next door to a Cost Plus World Market. Shopping heaven!

3) In the song, Papa wants to surprise Mama with a bottle of wine. Do you prefer white or red?
I prefer white but now that I know about the benefits of red, I might order it instead.  I don't drink a lot of wine.
Many doctors agree that something in red wine appears to help your heart. It's possible that antioxidants, such as flavonoids or a substance called resveratrol, have heart-healthy benefits.

4) This week's featured artist, Garth Brooks, has said that the late Chris LeDoux -- singer, sculptor and rodeo champion -- is his hero. If you had to single out someone this morning as your hero, who would it be?
I am very partial to dog hero stories!

5) Before he was able to support himself as a singer, Brooks was a bouncer at a bar. Have you ever had an encounter with a bouncer (either that he threw you out or came to your aid)?
No! I have never been anywhere that had a bouncer.  Bars were not my scene.

6) According to the RIAA (Recording Industry Association of America), Garth surpassed The Beatles as the top selling artist of the last 25 years. Whose music do you listen to more -- Garth Brooks or the The Beatles?
The Beatles....I do like Garth too. But don't listen to him often. I admire that he retired for a decade to raise his kids.

7) While 1992 was a banner year for Garth Brooks, it was a bad one for another country legend, Willie Nelson. Willie ended up paying the IRS more than $9,000,000. When you file your taxes, will you qualify for a refund? Or will you owe money?I
It is always hard to say, we took some money from our retirement annuity this year.

8) When this song was popular in 1992, Sarah Ferguson, then the Duchess of York, was in all the papers and magazines for her controversial conduct -- including being photographed sunbathing topless with a man not her husband. Today no one seems to care much about what Sarah Ferguson does. Can you think of someone else whose fame was fleeting?
Carmen Electra, some of the Spice Girls. Just last week I wondered where Selma Hayek went.  I wish the Kardashians would go the way of Paris Hilton.

9) This is Super Bowl weekend. Where will you be watching The Big Game? No.   I will be shopping, unless it snows.

Shop Tiii I Drop? Friday Fragments

The dogs are going to the groomers today so I will go shopping at Ross and TJ Maxx as I do.....They are in the same area.  I don't need anything and I might not buy much but I love those stores.

I have lived in all the zones except for the Mystery Belt, the Bears Only and Murder Mountains.

On a more serious note:
I didn't get vaccinated because they weren't discovered, though I did get vaccinated for smallpox and polio.  It was the times and I had both kinds of measles when they spread through my school. I was very sick.

One doctor's response
My kids were vaccinated at the appropriate times because they weren't allowed in kindergarten without them and I was grateful for modern medicine.  Those who didn't have their shots were rare and usually had some immune issues, The were protected because the other kids had been immunized.  I don't understand why parents would choose to have vaccinations or not for their kids.  It is sad to see measles make a comeback, when it is so easily prevented and the autism issue has been debunked.

I close with cute animals for your viewing pleasure.

Throwback Thursday

I wanted to scan some stuff into my computer but....the scanner was not working.  So of course I had to figure it out as it is a fairly new scanner, printer, fax and I already am having problems with the faxing....it doesn't. I think I need a filter on the phone line.  Any way I downloaded Fixit software from HP and low and behold it scans. To test it I pulled some pictures of my folks and Mr BC's mom from the bulletin board, so I am posting a Throwback Friday.

The picture of my folks was taken sometime after our wedding, in 1967 as mom is wearing the dress she wore to our wedding. The picture of Mr BC's mom was taken at her Saturday Night Hootenanny at the ATA, maybe a decade or so ago, before she had her heart problems.

Music artist- Eric Clapton

Thing to do when bored-I'm ashamed to say I will turn the computer back on.

Genre of literature-Historical Fiction

Magazine-Country Living, although I have let all my magazine subscription expire as I can't read them comfortably and I can keep up on the computer or my Kindle and adjust the font.

Texture-I have a hoodie that has the softest fleece lining, I wear it and wash it and it gets softer.

Time of day-Bed time.

Day of the week-Sunday nights for Masterpiece Theater.

Thing to learn about-More about photography for my travels.  I think I am going to take over the camera.

Thing about yourself-My ability to see things from many perspectives, but it can make it hard to make decisions sometimes.

Lifehack (a time saving, efficiency technique for life)-I have dozens I get from Pinterest. 1. Simply put a glass of water in your microwave and heat for about one minute (This should make the inside of the microwave steamy)
2. Let the glass sit in the microwave for about 20 minutes with the door closed. (The moisture condensing on the walls will soften the food residue).
3. Wipe off the residue with a sponge or paper towel.

Friday Fragments and Funnies

The day before we left on vacation, my washer broke and I had to finish it at my daughter's, who happily lives on the next street over.  When we got back, I looked on the Whirlpool web site and called one of the local repair service.  He ended up coming 3 times over 2 weeks. to finally get it fixed. After the 2nd time I Googled the error codes, and found this was a problem that was able to be resolved, so I mentioned the source to him.  He was sure it was something else but when he got here the 3rd time......I turned out to be right.  He still charged me 45 more, dollars for labor.  I am not sure I will be calling them for anything else.

When we were driving back from California a few weeks, we had a close call with an eighteen wheeler.  In Arizona, Mr BC was getting back on I 40 after a rest stop and gas fill up.  He was accelerating back on to the highway, taking a look to see who might be coming up as he merged, when he looked back the rig in the right lane was barely moving and was quite disabled.  He had to slam on breaks and steer towards a guard rail.  We ultimately stopped with out wrecking, but it was close.  I was still shaking miles later.

My Grandsons enjoying their new bikes on Christmas day.  The weather was beautiful the whole time we were in CA.  See my beach pictures from last week.  It has been very cold here but no snow or ice and temps in the 50's this weekend.

Some funnies for your viewing pleasure, odds and ends I have been collecting.

Whew! What Stinks? Memory Monday

Retired Not Tired Memory Monday
Once again, it’s Monday, and time to join Judy @ Retired-Not-Tired for more memories.  This week we’re continuing our travels down the road entitled More Vacation Memories… Since I didn't participate last Monday mine is just..................

                                         Vacation Memories
We always took camping vacations or vacations to Oklahoma to see our relatives when I was young. My brother and didn't have a lot of say about where we went, but we usually enjoyed ourselves.  I had been asking my mom and dad to take us to Yellowstone, for a long time because I really wanted to see Old Faithful.

When I was in high school (maybe freshman or sophomore), my parents finally took my brother and I to Yellowstone, one fine August. We were tent campers in those days, Mom and dad slept on an interesting platform in their 1958 Plymouth station wagon storing all the camping paraphernalia under that platform. They had a mattress cut down to fit the platform perfectly.  Bro and I slept in the tent.   We had to put all the food in the car every night to discourage bears.  That worried me just a little. The food was safe, but how safe were we under canvas? Earlier we saw a bear captured in a device that was going to take him further into the forest.

There is more in Yellowstone, than bears and Old Faithful and we would spend time every few days visiting many of the bubbling mud pots, paint pots and various geysers.  What no one had told me, was how badly much of Yellowstone smelled!  After a visit or two, I wouldn't leave the car to see another sulfur smelling hole in the ground. Dad spent the rest of the trip reminding me that, "You were the one wanting to go to Yellowstone."

Dad got in some fishing in and we got to see the beautiful Yellowstone Falls and I did get out of the car to see Ol'Faithful spout, I was somewhat disappointed, as the viewing we saw, was not as spectacular as the one above.

Our visit was coming to a close when the weather turned cold, it was late August.  That next morning I wakened to mom furiously shouting orders to dad, so I stayed quiet to sleep in a little, soon I was jerked awake when the foot of my sleeping bag fell of my air mattress and soaked up freezing water that I was floating on.  When I yelled, Dad came and got me and carried me to the camp toilet and shower.  It had rained that night and somewhere around freezing that am, it started snowing in August in Yellowstone.  Mom and dad were packing up....every thing was soaking and we made a mad dash for a Motel and laundromat in Jackson Hole. The rest of the vacation was spent in Washington State and Oregon, on the way back to California. We dried the tent out at cousins, in Oregon.

I have had other vacations that have been more fun....but this was funny and memorable.

Friday Fragments-What I Did on My Christmas Vacation

Half-Past Kissin' Time
JOINING MRS 4444 FOR FRIDAY FRAGMENTS

Well we are back from our trip to California.  We left the Monday after Christmas trying to get home before New Years.  We arrived home the Friday after New Years.  Part of it had to do with not being able to leave before noon, because Mr BC had to pick up parts at Moss Motors, for the Triumph, he is restoring.  He thought as long as he was in town......This put us in Los Angeles, right in the middle of evening traffic.....really bad traffic and we it was bad all the way to Victorville.  Essentially we lost a whole day, thank you very much.

When we decided to stop early the next day, because we were beat.  The nice lady at the KOA Kampground, encouraged us to go on well past Flagstaff, as they were expecting a massive weather storm and might not get out the next day.  From then on we were out in front of winter storms the rest of the way home.  After the last trip to CA in the winter and this we have decided we are not winter campers.....Though the weather while we were in CA was fantastic.  Getting home is problematic.

As I said the weather was beautiful in Carpenteria, where we camped at the State Beach.  This was our view out our front door.

A trip down the beach takes you to the naturally occurring surface asphalt the Chumash Indians used to seal their canoes.  Petroleum seeps are still visible along the beach bluffs at Tar Pits Park on the campground beach of Carpinteria State Beach. *Wickipedia

Christmas was fun with the boys...both have grown so tall and I love that I can hold a rather grown up conversation with almost 6 year old Ð›ÑƒÐºÐ°, He is as patient as he can be most of the time, with his little brother.  He got a bigger bicycle this year.
It was the only thing that, almost 3 year old Caшa, didn't claim.....Mine, mine, mine!

Caшa, already has a smaller glider bike that he can maneuver quite well.  They both went out for rides, later in the day with the kids in the neighborhood.

Everyone stayed healthy while we were there so thankfully we made it home healthy.  Though, Thursday all day, Mr BC was laid low with a very upset stomach bug.  I did not know he had all that in him!  It has not progressed to anything else so maybe it was something he ate.
