Friday Fragments-Passport to Friendship

“Airplane travel is nature’s way of making you look like your passport photo.” -- Al Gore
Going to Post Office today to renew our passports....did you know most USPS offices will take your picture too?  The last time I renewed I had to get pictures taken elsewhere (AAA). I had to buy some new make-up for the pictures so I won't get lost on the white background.

Today was our friends, Maggie and Jiggs,50th wedding anniversary.  I met them in 1966 when I came to MO to meet Mr BC's folks. We had cupcakes and coffee today, after our morning walk in celebration. Mr BC and I will be 48 years this August.  The trip in September to Europe is in celebration of that Anniversary.

In 2 weeks, Mr BC leaves for a couple of weeks in CA to see the kids and grand kids.  I am going to stay home and watch the dogs and will probably go sometime this summer or fall after our big trip.

I am going to have my new floor in the dining room put in while he is gone, and have some ME time while he is gone. Maybe hit the antique stores in the area.

Busy Weekend-Friday Fragments

Half-Past Kissin' Time
Joining Mrs 4444 for Friday Fragments

I haven't done Friday Fragments for a few weeks, mainly because I have not been doing too much to post about.  Winter has kept us indoors so much more than usual.  Today is the first day of Spring and we are starting to have a little hope of Spring in the weather forecast.

We celebrated a birthday today at our daily walk in the mall.  After walking we usually spend an hour or so in the food court drinking coffee and chatting.  I have met a lovely lady, who walks everyday and visits with us, unless, she is delivering meals on wheels to seniors that day.  She turned 91 today and we celebrated with Maggie's (of Maggie and Jiggs) homemade cinnamon rolls. Ninety-one and she walks 6 days a week then delivers meals to other seniors, This lady is amazing and I want to be just like her when I grow up.

On Saturday we are going to the monthly meeting of The Greater Ozark British Motoring Club.  We haven't gone this winter because the weather has been bad on the meeting dates. I have to remember to bring the check book to pay the dues for this year.  They meet at a garage for an early morning technical meeting at 9:30 and we usually meet up with them at lunch at Logan's Roadhouse.  Mr BC wants to go to all the meeting and since Springfield MO is about an hour away,  I am going to have him drop me off at Battlefield Mall early....for a little walking and shopping and then he can pick me up for lunch. Going out for lunch, it has been so long.

Had a nice visit with DD2 on Wednesday.  I usually see her when she comes here to dry her clothes every other Wednesday....she has a washer but no dryer.  She was here most of the afternoon finishing up her laundry and I also drove her to pick up her car which was in the shop.  Just a nice visit!

Spring Fever-Wednesday Hodgepodge

Time to join Joyce from This Side of the Pond for Wednesday Hodgepodge, I always enjoy her questions.
1. Share a favorite song, book, or movie title containing the word green?

This movie has some of my favorite actresses in it. It was funny and dramatic and a bit of a thriller.

2. Ralph Waldo Emerson is quoted as saying, 'Shallow men believe in luck. Strong men believe in cause and effect.' Would you agree? Are you a believer in luck? I don't believe in luck...I somewhat believe in miracles...but I am not sure of cause and effect, that would mean because we are bad...bad things happen, or an angry god or something like that.  I think bad things and good things just happen randomly, and if we use our brains and seek answers, we can impact the bad things.

3. Spring water, Hot Springs, handspring, spring fling, spring break, spring fever, offspring...which 'spring' word best applies to something in your day, week, or life right now?
Probably Spring fever, with the winter we had, and the brown that is all around, I am ready for my forsythia, and tulips to spring up and out.

4. What's something you do to make yourself look or feel more confident?
I get up early and go to the mall to walk.  I am up to 2 miles.  I hope I will look better eventually and I know I feel better now and that makes me confident.

5.  It's National Celery Month...are you a fan? If so, what's a snack or dish you enjoy that calls for celery? No, celery has too much salt in it for Mr BC and I don't really like it much raw. I was the one who would eat the cheese and peanut butter out of it and leave the celery on my plate, when I was a kid.  I don't mind celery in cooked food

6. What's one thing you wish you'd learned sooner?
To chose and create my own values and beliefs rather than following the crowd or the norm. I am glad that I have finally learned to think for myself, That does not mean rejection of everything I have ever learned, instead I do what makes me happy, I say no when I need to follow my path.

7. Would you like to own a second home? If so where would you want that home to be?  I would like a little cottage in maybe Oxfordshire or the Cotswold's.  I would use it as a base for travel and touring the British Isles.  This would do nicely.

8.  Insert your own random thought here.
The dogs go for their monthly grooming and that usually means that I go shopping at the mall and other places just an afternoon to myself, but it is raining and Mr BC offered to go with me to drop them off because he feels guilty sending me off by myself.  I asked if he really felt guilty or was he watching the pocket book as I went off to shop and he laughed!  It's kind of dreary so I will do my afternoon to myself, another day.  He is going out to CA in April and leaving me with the dogs, to see the grandsons and visit other family.  I am looking forward to the vacation....then I can go off by myself all I want. We often get off by ourselves, it makes getting back together sweet.

Candy is Dandy-Wednesday Hodgepodge

1. What's the first image that comes to mind when you hear the word 'spring'? Which phrase best describes the season of spring where you live right now (today)-sprung! almost there, or still waiting?
Winter recovered quickly this week, and it was in the 70's yesterday and will be today. Showers tomorrow then a beautiful weekend.  I would say Spring is just around the corner.....Thank the stars. When I think of Spring I think of all the tulips my MIL planted and I discovered the first spring we lived here.

2. Bed, couch, stapler, garage door, computer mouse, recliner, flashlight, door knob...which household item containing springs most needs replacing in your home? Speaking of springs...did you ever own a Slinky?
I think the springs in our house are doing well...most of the living room furniture is new.  I always had slinkies on the table in my training room for people to fiddle with during lecture and discussion. It helped with fiddling and focus.

3. March is Women's History Month. Share a favorite quote by a woman.

4. What's a question that looms large in your mind right now?
Should I lay down wood floors in my living room when I am doing the dining room.....or do I want to keep carpeting there?  I am leaning toward new carpet after the winter we had.

5. Are you a sugar freak? By that I mean how much do you love sugar? With all the bad press sugar gets these days, have you made any efforts to reduce the amount of sugar you consume? I don't think I am a sugar freak...I am more of a candy freak.  I have to cut back on candy.  For other sweets, I only have a small box of sugar on my shelf. I am always looking for low to sugar free. We use Splenda here.

6. Would you rather have less work to do or more work you enjoy doing? Now that I am retired, I am able to keep up with the work I don't like to do and if I could decide what is work I enjoy doing....I have time for that too. I don't consider things I like to do as WORK!

7. Ever been to Texas? Of the top ten Texas tourist attractions which would you most like to see-The Alamo, The San Antonio River Walk, The State Capital, Dallas World Aquarium, Padre Island National Seashore, Houston Space Center, Schlitterbahn Waterpark in New Braunfels, Six Flags Fiesta Texas,  Moody Gardens, or Galveston Island?
I want to go to see the Alamo and do the San Antonio River Walk.  I have only driven through Texas, I have never stopped to see anything.

8.  Insert your own random thought here.
Even baby rhinoceroses are darling!  I love all baby animals. The full video is here.

Wednesday Hodgepodge

1. 'In like a lion, out like a lamb'...does the first part of this saying describing March weather ring true  where you live?
Oh yes!  It is cold and blustery, snow and sleet is going to happen tonite. Mr BC says some of the worst storms can happen in March, around here. Then of course, tornado season will happen soon after, some times the lamb never arrives.

2. March 4th is National Grammar Day. What common grammatical error bothers you the most?
Using Myself, instead of I or me, when it is more appropriate and saying Me and Mr Bankerchick instead of Mr Bankerchick and I.

3. William Arthur Ward says- 'The pessimist complains about the wind; the optimist expects it to change; the realist adjusts the sails.' Which one are you?
I think I am an optimistic realist. I am sure I can adjust the sails.

4. What's something you need to 'march forth and conquer' this month? The carpet in the dining room needs to be pulled up and a new floor put in. Also we need to renew our passports this month.

5. An ongoing debate around here...do you dust first, then vacuum or vacuum first, then dust? Of the two routine household chores, which do you dislike the least? How's that for wording?
I hate to dust, I would rather vacuum.

Sleeping Beauty's Castle Anaheim, CA
6. According to thrilllist.com, the ten most photographed sites in the U.S.A. are- Cinderella's Castle in Orlando, Southernmost House in Key West Florida, The Space Needle in Seattle, The Site of the Boston Massacre in Boston, The Bellagio Lake/fountains in Las Vegas, The Lincoln Memorial in Washington DC, Coit Tower in San Francisco, The Art Institute of Chicago, Niagara Falls, and snagging the number one spot-The Guggenheim Museum in New York City. How many on this list have you photographed? Which on the list would you most like to visit and photograph? I have seen the sites marked in red, but I am not a photographer. We do have some snapshots with the kids, of the Coit Tower Snow White's Castle in Anaheim and the Lincoln memorial.

7. Fifty years ago Monday (March 2, 1965) The Sound of Music premiered at the Rivoli Theatre in NYC. Have you seen the film? Do you own a copy? On a scale of 1-10 how much do you love it (or not)? Ten=best movie ever. If you're a fan, what's your favorite scene or song from the movie?
There was a tape of The Sound of Music that we owned at one time.  It is, maybe about a 6-7 on my best movie list. I remember learning Climb Every Mountain and Favorite Things in music class.  I saw the play, with a young Florence Henderson, at the Philharmonic Theater in Los Angeles.....so many years ago.

8. Insert your own random thought here.
Tuesday was Mr Bankerchick's Birthday.  He turned 72.  He had a simple dinner request, tuna sandwiches, french fries and ice cream. This morning he woke up a little under the weather.....too much birthday excitement!  It looks to be milder later this week.  I hope he feels better so we can go out to celebrate a little.

Confession is Good! Tuesday Coffee Chat

Join me and Rory at Time Out for Mom, for a Tuesday Coffee Chat. Today, she asks us about a Random Confession, as it is good for the soul.

I have confessed some things in other posts and they range from being a Star Trek fan, having a crush on Justin Timberlake (I am 60+) to naming my cars. I have spoken about my change of heart with Fundamental Christianity and move to more universal humanism.  I am no longer a Republican, but not a full fledged Liberal in my politics. So in saying all this I must search for a new confession to share here and it probably won't be too earth shattering.

Some things I found while looking around for something to confess to, and that are true about me:

Oh, I  got it! I got an e-mail about my  50th HS reunion, I don't want to go, and not because I will be on a trip that week, not because it is in CA and I am in Missouri, but because I went to the 40th and everyone who showed up were the campus big wigs back in the day. They hadn't changed much except they still thought they were important.  Most of the folks I wanted to see didn't come and I was bored to tears. I am hoping by liking the FaceBook page, I will be able to friend some folks, I would like to catch up with.
