Chatting About Interesting Things

http://www.everydayruralty.com/
1.  What is your favorite berry? Boysenberries are my all time favorites, especially in a pie.
2.  If you had the choice of a picnic or a sit down dinner, which would you choose? I prefer a sit down dinner to picnic on the ground or even at a picnic table in the park too rough and hot.  A sit outdoor BBQ in the evening, on the patio is ok.
3.  How is your handwriting? Fancy, plain, legible, doctor-like? I too, learned the traditional cursive handwriting.  It may be something that parents will have to teach, as schools are starting to dismiss it.  My own is still mostly legible.
4.  Do you prefer a desk top computer, laptop, or tablet?  I like the old fashion laptop.  I am not sure I could blog on a tablet.
5.  Tell me something interesting, please.

I didn't know peacocks could even fly, did you?

Random XV- Sunday Stealing

Random XV
1. How old is the oldest pair of shoes in your closet? I have had to get rid of many shoes that I can't wear anymore so, I guess my Crocs are the oldest shoes in my closet, about 5 years old.

2. Did you buy Girl Scout cookies this year? If so, what variety? 1 box of Thin Mints, but I gave them $20 in donation.  I like the Girl Scouts.

3. Do you know how to ballroom dance? I can probably waltz somewhat.  I remember going to a cotillion class in 7th grade, in the evenings, where we learned manners and dancing. And then there was a dance at the end of it.  The boys had to be dragged to it and the girls loved it.  This was about 1959.

4. Were you a responsible child/teenager? I think so....maybe because of the manners class???  I very seldom did things behind my folks back or lie as I was pretty bad at it.

5. How many of this year's Oscar-nominated movies did you see? None before the show.  Since the Oscars, I have seen Philomena, American Hustle, Gravity, and best Animated....Frozen....just last week.

6. If you're going to have a medical procedure done, such as having blood drawn, is it easier for you to watch someone else having the procedure done or have it done yourself? Just do it yourself and get it over with.

http://kikibatsu.wordpress.com/
7. What is your favorite day of the week and why? Wednesdays, as twice a month it is SS pay day.  When you are retired....one day is like the rest.  We try to get things done on weekdays when it is less crowded.

8. What’s the best compliment you’ve ever received?? "You don't look old enough to be retired."  I just got it at the hairdressers last week.

9. Do hospitals make you queasy? Not queasy, I am phobic about picking up germs, and use the hand cleaner if I touch anyone or anything.

10. At which store would you like to max-out your credit card? I'm not really a shopper....maybe I would max it out for a trip or a new kitchen.

11. Are you true to the brand names of products/items? Yes, to a certain extent.  I will try new things. It depends on what products they are.  Cleaners, toilet paper, cosmetics.....definitely.

12. Which is more difficult: looking into someone’s eyes when you are telling someone how you feel, or looking into someone’s eyes when he/she is telling you how he/she feels? Nope

13. What’s one thing you’re deeply proud of — but would never put on your résumé? I once got a B in Geometry.....math not my strong suit.

14. What’s the most out-of-character choice you’ve ever made? I brought home a new dog from PetSmart charities, a month ago.  It was very out of character and I surprised everyone.  He is a 7 year old sweet heart. His name is Casper.

We now have 3 dogs.

15. What’s your personal anthem or theme song?
"Sittin' on the dock of the Bay" Otis Redding

Memorial Day-Saturday 9

Memorial Day was introduced to honor the men and women who died while serving the in the United States Armed Forces. We want to make sure that message is not forgotten this weekend.

The Star Spangled Banner

1) Are you a veteran? Are there veterans in your family? (We are grateful and want to hear about it.) Mr BC was in the Navy when I met and married him and we move to shore duty in Key West.  This was during the Viet Nam war.  He had spent some time, before I met him, in the Gulf of Tonkin.  My Dad was in WW2.

2) Memorial Day also kicks off the summer season. What's your favorite picnic food? I would have to say, my Father in law's fried chicken.

3) Let's celebrate the Memorial Day holiday with ice cream. What's your favorite flavor?  I am currently on a frozen yogurt binge.  I like the Ben and Jerry's brand.  Any flavor!

4) This marks the weekend when Americans step up their outdoor activity and do things they may not have been able to do during the winter months. For example, when is the last time you rode a bike? It was a long time ago that I rode a bike for any distance.  Maybe when the kids were in scouts. I actually like a bike and now that we have the RV, we are looking for a bike for me.

5) Or went hiking? I consider most walks with the dogs as a hike.....so, recently.
6) Or rode a horse? On my cruise to Mexico....on the beach.  Several years ago.  It was a lot of fun and the girls enjoyed it.
7) Or toasted a marshmallow? On a trip to Yosemite with DD1 and SIL before they were married.  We made s'mores.

8) As you answer these questions, is there an air conditioner or window fan on? Yes, the fan...It is pretty still this morning, in the house, as the storm windows are still on. We have only a couple of windows open yet.  We have had the a/c on already, a couple of times, mainly because of humidity.

9) Crazy Sam needs your help: What song or a performer would you like to see featured in a Saturday 9 this summer? Macy Gray, Joss Stone, Norah Jones. Some of their songs should lend themselves to questions.

Vacation-Saturday 9

Vacation (1982)

Unfamiliar with this week's song? Hear it here.

1) Do you know how to water ski? No and I don't want to learn.  Mr BC tried it many years ago before we met.  I am curious to see if anyone water skis any more.

2) Do you have 2014 vacation plans? Yes, we are taking a big tour of New England, in our RV, this fall.  I have started planning it already, since it is around the corner. We will make some mini trips this summer.  DD2 and I are planning two days off this Mon and Tue.  We are going to Kansas City for a girls night out.  I know we will have fun. We also plan to hit Trader Joe's as we get out of town,  I am going to use my new IPhone to take pictures.

3) Do you have a passport? Yes, but it is expired.  We need to renew so it will be ready if we want to go to Canada on the Fall trip or go abroad anytime in the next seven years. I have been to Turkey & Greece on a Med cruise, London, England, and Japan with this passport.

4) If you took a 7-night cruise, could you completely unplug -- no phone calls, no texts, no internet? Absolutely,  I love a cruise.

5) Do you own a travel alarm clock? Yes, an older model.  I use my phone as a clock and alarm nowadays.
This is our alarm clock, 6:00 am, every morning
6) Though the Go-Gos broke up in 1985, they frequently reunite for live performances. What's the last concert you attended? I have answered this question on a lot of memes and the answer is always the same.  I can't remember the last concert I went to!  We always say we'd "like to see this, that or them" etc. but never do get tickets.

7) Their first hit was "Our Lips Are Sealed."  Can you be trusted with a secret? Yes, except I usually tell Mr BC.  He can keep a secret too.

8) In 1982, when this song was popular, the comedy Tootsie was in theaters. What movie makes you laugh? Well, Tootsie certainly did.  I still laugh at Trains, Planes and Automobiles.  There are so many, I am certain I will agree with your choices....I love a funny movie.

9) Sam is chewing on a Tums as she composes these questions. What's the last over-the-counter medication that you took? I took some Advil and some Pepsid
yesterday.

Do You Tube?-Chat 139

http://www.everydayruralty.com/
1.  Do you ever watch You Tube?  I click on videos all the time and DD1 and SIL have a site on, You Tube, that host wonderful videos of the grandsons.

2.  How are your picture taking (photography) skills? I am enthusiastic, but not very talented.  I just got a new Iphone and I am going to take pictures more often so maybe they will be better.
3.  What's your "go to" meal to prepare when you're in a hurry? Italian sausage sandwiches, pastas etc.
4.  Do you like shoe shopping? I use to enjoy it...but now there are only certain types of shoes I can wear, so it is more complicated.  I just got an orthotic which has helped my poor feet.  But now my insert has to fit the shoe.  So open shoes and sandals are out.  Since I broke my foot several years ago.  I have tossed a lot of my beautiful shoe.
5.  If you could be royalty for a day, would you try it?  As long as Mr BC treats me like a Queen.....I'm good.

This Momma Does Dance-Saturday9

Unfamiliar with this week's song? Hear it here

1) This song is about how the older generation often doesn't understand what the younger generation is up to. Do you keep up with trends? Not as much as when I was working I had to keep up somwhat.  I do enjoy lurking the many Tumblrs and Imgur type of web sites.  I am not cool enough to want to post, but I enjoy the creativity.

 2) This song was in the top 10 in 1972, which is also the year HBO was introduced. Do you have any premium cable channels? No, but I do use Netflix and Hulu. And Amazon Prime for pay for view. DD2 put HBOgo on Roku for us but, it loads so slowly we haven't been interested or patient enough to watch anything.

3) Mother Winters taught Sam how to kill the lingering food smells in her microwave (take a bowl of water, add a few drops of vanilla extract, and heat it in the microwave). Do you have any useful household hints to pass along? I found this originally on a life hack tumblr.

4) The French word for "mother" is "mère." What other French words do you know? I took French a long time ago for several years....while I don't try to converse in it, I can read enough of it to get along very basically. If I were to go to France, practice would help me get around.

5) Flowers and plants are popular on Mother's Day. How is your yard or garden? Is it green and/or blooming? Well it is green and blooming in some spots thanks to Grandma for planting bulbs when she lived here.
6) Mother's Day is a big holiday for card shops. So are birthdays, weddings, and St. Patrick's Day. Hallmark sells greetings for everything from "Congratulations on Your New Job" to "Happy Retirement." Who received the most recent card you bought? I don't send a lot of cards so consequently I don't get many.  I sent a e-card the last time I sent a card.

7) Have you put away your winter clothes yet? Yes, I hung all the coats and hanging stuff, in the closet, in the loft.  The rest of the stuff is on the way.

They are in a basket on the landing of the stairs.

8) Mother Winters used to scold Sam for leaving her dirty dishes in the sink. Sam admits it: as a grown up, she's still a bit of a slob. Do lean toward "neat" or "messy?" More to messy clutter.

9) To celebrate Mother's Day, Sam is giving away candy bars. Would you prefer classic milk chocolate, dark chocolate or milk chocolate with almonds? I like dark chocolate with nuts.

Chatting About Beans and Things

http://www.everydayruralty.com/
1.  Do you like beans? (the dried bean variety) What do you like them in?
I mainly put beans in Chili. I am not really fond of beans.
2.  Does your house have enough storage?
Yes, at last I live somewhere, that has enough. I have attic space on the
second floor and we have a storage shed.  The problem is that we moved
here 2 years ago and still have things in moving boxes since there was
plenty of space to store them.  It is always something.

3.  Do you have any childhood memories of a store?
I remember taking the bus downtown to shop at the Woolworth and  JCPenneys with my mother. This was before Malls.  I was running around the aisles when I ran into a woman, who knocked me down giving me a goose egg on my forehead.  She never even stopped to see if I was ok.  I know it was probably my fault, but she should have stopped for me.
4.  Do you ever shop at a farmers market?
We have several local farmer's'markets close by.  I usually go to the one on
Tuesday and sometimes the one on Saturday if I am out and about.
5.  Do you still have your wisdom teeth? Are you wise? :) :)
I had them removed thirty years ago and did not seem to lose any of my smarts.  I just had two broken teeth removed. One.....that had a crown. and the oral surgeon place an implant so I could have a tooth placed.  It is very noticeably missing and I want to improve my smile.  Also I broke a     bridge and had to have the broken anchor tooth pulled so they can place a   new bridge. If I had been wiser I would have taken better care of the teeth   that were left behind.
