Too Close-Saturday 9

Saturday 9: Too Close (2011)

Unfamiliar with this week's song? Hear it Here

1) This song is about a friendship that turned romantic ... and it doesn't end happily. Have you ever crossed that line with a friend? If so, how did it work out? No, never, but Mr BC is also my best friend.

2) When he was a kid, this week's singer, Alex Clare, listened to his dad's Stevie Wonder records. When you were in 7th/8th grades, what music were you into? Frankie Avalon, I remember playing his records until they wore out and my parents were ready to toss the radio.

3) "Too Close" has been featured on the TV show, The Vampire Diaries. Do you enjoy shows/books/movies about the supernatural? Yes, when they are well done. I am not really into zombies.

4) Some of Alex Clare's tour dates were sponsored by Bud Light. Do you like beer? No, but Mr BC claims I did when we were dating.....That was the cheapest adult beverage served at parties so I would drink what was available.  I did not care for it. I think it is very bitter.

5) Mr. Clare trained to be a chef, just in case the music thing didn't work out. Are you a good cook? I use to be, but I have since become lazy and I have no claim to fame as a cook. I do like to make pastries but I don't because they are to high in calories.  I can make a mean enchilada dish

6) Crazy Sam is forever running out of mayo because she slathers it on her sandwiches. What is currently on your grocery list? Well, since I am back in CA with the grandsons I don't have a specific list, but I did ask DD1 to pick up some blueberries for my cereal. An I need a regular loaf of sliced bread that isn't rustic.

7) Where are you most likely to find spare change -- between the sofa cushions, in your jeans as you toss them into the washer, or under the floor mat of your car? None of those places.  I can usually find the change I need at the bottom of my purse.  It always dumps out of my wallet or I just toss it there when I am in a hurry. I am usually good for a couple of quarters.

8) How did you spend your Friday night -- .working late, hanging out with friends, or just enjoying a quiet night at home? Well I am hanging out with the grandsons enjoying the evening. So far Caшa, has soaked himself at the sink playing in water and Лука wants to watch something besides Peppa the pig.

9) Do you use Pinterest? I have an account and some pages....but I lost interest.

Cocacabana-Saturday 9)

Saturday 9: Copacabana

Unfamiliar with this week's song? Hear it here

1) This song refers to the merengue and the cha-cha. Are you a good dancer?
Not really, but when I hear the music, I am enthusiastic.

http://pandawhale.com/
2) Dances like the merengue and cha-cha are featured on Dancing with the Stars. Are you a loyal DWTS viewer?
No, however it is probably the only "reality" show I would watch, if Mr BC would let me.  I enjoy dance contests. but I would not want to endure the chatter that would come if Mr BC had to watch it too.

3) The Copa girl in the song, Lola, wears yellow feathers in her hair and a dress cut down to there. If we were going to the clubs tonight, what would you wear?
The last club I went to was Sam's Club and I wore jeans.

4) The real Copacabana nightclub was on East 60th Street in New York. It was used as a setting for the movie Goodfellas. Do you have a favorite mobster movie?
The first Godfather. It is a classic, I also enjoyed the Sopranos, and watched them all.

5) Our featured artist, Barry Manilow, has unfortunately spent a great deal of this young century in the hospital -- broken nose, face lift, chest pains and two hip surgeries. Tell us about your most recent trip to the doctor, ER, or dentist.
Wednesday, I went to an orthopedist, finally, about my ankle (I broke it 6 years ago). It has been affecting my interaction with the grandkids, exercise an Mr BC is tired of me stumbling around on it. "Go to the Dr!" So I did.  It is arthritis, (I knew that.) He gave me a different anti-inflammatory, and referred me for an orthotic. I go back in 30 days. I am also scheduled for oral surgery next month, for an implant. When I go for check-ups I get my moneys worth.

6) Manilow told US Magazine that he enjoys nude sunbathing. Have you ever skinny dipped or sunbathed au naturel?
NO. Never have, never will.

7) Before he became famous as a performer, Manilow was a very successful jingle writer. "Like a good neighbor, State Farm is there …" and "You deserve a break today at McDonald's …" were his. Tell us about a TV commercial you saw recently.
Any thing with dogs in it.  Subaru has some good ones.

8) The Manilow faithful are known as Fanilows and proudly wear Barry hoodies, wristwatches and even dog tags. Do you have any clothes that feature a recording artist?
No, but I have a Les Miserables hat, that I got when DD2 and I saw it in London several years ago.

9) In 2005, Manilow refused to respond when Larry King inquired about his sexuality. Do you think it's rude for interviewers to ask personal questions? Or is it something a performer should expect because it goes with the job?
I am not a fan of Manilow, but it would not be because of his sexuality. It is not anyone's business, but he should expect that his fans might be curious. Interviewers should not ask and snoops should not try to "out" him.

Chatting about Fairys

http://www.everydayruralty.com/
1.  What are your favorite condiments? I like catsup and mayo.  I also like steak sauce and balsamic vinegar. Is cranberry sauce a condiment? I have it all year long.
2,  What are you reading? Eden (Eden Saga), by Dean Crawford.  I just finished The Ministry of Guidance Invites You to Not Stay: An American Family in Iran, by Majd, Hooman. The Forgotten Sister: Mary Bennet's Pride and Prejudice by Jennifer Paynter, is one I could recommend to you Patrice if you like Austenalia.
3.  What was the last dessert you had? I had some frozen yogurt last night.

4.  Wendell would like to know if you would build him a snowman. (If you don't have snow, just pretend. He's not detail oriented.)  Since we are talking dessert!

5.  Tell me something fun or interesting. Fairy doors, I wrote about them here.
I have plans to have one in my house before too long, because they fascinate me.  I have always loved miniatures, since I was a kid and my Grandpa made a doll house for me.
I have some lovely gnarly Walnut trees in the yard, I could do something like this.  I remember reading someones blog, who wrote about talking a walk and finding a Fairy Door in a tree along her path.  I could go around placing Fairy Doors mysteriously, all around town.

Unicorn-Saturday 9

"The Unicorn" was selected because Monday is St. Patrick's Day. Unfamiliar with this week's song? Hear it here.

1) This song was recorded by The Irish Rovers. While it's said that on St. Patrick's Day everyone is Irish, can you honestly claim Irish heritage?

I don't think so, most of our family surnames are Scottish. Mr. BC has a McKinley in the background.

2) According to the 2000 Census, Massachusetts is the state with the largest percentage of residents of Irish descent. Have you ever been to The Bay State? No, but we are planning a trip to New England this fall and Massachusetts is included in our itinerary. We are both history buffs and a lot of American History took place there. We plan to be gone for a month.

3) Other than St. Patrick, what is Ireland famous for?

Guinness, whisky, the color green, the Blarney Stone, the potato famine, red hair, shamrocks, leprechauns, U2, Limericks and luck..... lots of stuff.

4) St. Patrick's Day is celebrated the world over. They even watch marching bands and wave Irish flags on St. Patrick's Day in Moscow. Does your town have a St. Patrick's Day parade?

No, only a Christmas Parade and various Homecoming Parades.

5) "The wearing o' the green" is one way to celebrate St. Patrick's Day. Will you wear something green in honor of the day? If I remember.

6) Have you ever had green beer? No.

7) Have you ever ordered a Shamrock Shake at McDonald's?

They're Ok.....but my preferred green drink is Starbucks Green Tea Frappicino. I once had someone convinced it was an Avocado Shake.

8) A four-leaf clover is considered good luck. Do you have a lucky charm? A Butterfly.
We see them often around important events so I am convinced when I see one that it is my mom looking over my shoulder.

9) Speaking of Lucky Charms, they are magically delicious.  What brand of cereal is in your kitchen right now?

Quaker's Oatmeal Squares are my current favorite.

Daylight Savings Time-For a Chat

  1. If you are in the US, does the time change mess you up? The Spring forward aspect is a little harder than gaining an hour in November.
  2. Do you usually drink a beverage with you meals?  Yes, water or iced tea
  3. How often do you iron clothes?  I don't buy clothes that need to be ironed.  If my shirt gets wrinkled from sitting in the dryer,  I tumble it again with something damp.
  4. When was the last time you took an enjoyable walk? Monday morning.  We took the dogs to the park to see the Canadian geese.
  5. Tell  me whatever you'd like to share with us.  We have been hearing song birds for about a week now and yesterday I saw where my daffodils have sprouted by the porch.  Spring is out there somewhere.

Chatting on the Porch-129

http://www.everydayruralty.com/
1.  Do you like avocados? I love avocados and especially guacamole, I love it in salads. I don't eat them much, because when I buy them, I tend to forget about it and they go bad on me.

2.  Have you ever gone on a roller coaster?  I don't care for them at all. They were pretty scary to me and now I am sure I would just get sick.
3.  Do you do cross stitch, needlepoint, crewel work, or needle punch? I use to do needlepoint and knitting, but it became hard on my eyes.
4.  Do you cook with gas or electric? This house has a glass top electric stove and it has been hard learning to use it.  If it ever goes out on me I will replace with gas.
5.  Tell me something good, pleasant, or uplifting. Please.

The promise of spring's arrival is enough to get anyone through the bitter winter!”
― Jen Selinsky

Maggie and Jiggs just called to go out to lunch on this snowy day, so I will be back around to visit all you chatters on the porch later this afternoon.

Happy, Happy Birthday Baby!

Today is Mr Bankerchick's 70th birthday.  We don't have anything planned as the snow is quite deep and we haven't been outside since Friday.  It is very cold....but by Friday it will be up to 60F, so maybe we will do something.

Waterfalls-Saturday 9

Unfamiliar with this week's song? Hear it here.
Nope.....still not familiar~

1) This song encourages us to "stick to the rivers and lakes you're used to." What body of water is nearest your home -- pond, lake, river, gulf or sea?

Spring River, The Spring River is a 129-mile-long waterway located in southwestern Missouri, southeastern Kansas, and northeastern Oklahoma.

2) Have you ever visited a waterfall? If so, please tell us about it.

Upper and lower Yosemite Falls.
They are especially lovely in the Spring. The last time we were in Yosemite was late summer and they were just a trickle.

3) This song is from a CD entitled CrazySexyCool. Which word best describes how you feel today: Crazy, sexy or cool?
Cool....to the point of being very cold.  We are to get sleet on Sunday.

4) The girls in TLC originally began hanging around together in an Atlanta-area hair salon. When did you last sit in a stylist's chair?

I get my hair cut every 6 weeks or so, but just a cut and blow dry.  The last time I had my hair "styled" was for my daughter's wedding a few years ago.

5) While she she spent her adolescence in Atlanta, bandmember Tionne "T-Boz" Watkins was born in Des Moines. Do you live in or near the town where you were born?

No it is about 1500 miles away in CA. We live in Mr BC's hometown.

6) One of T-Boz' recent public appearances was on the Real Housewives of Atlanta. Do you watch any of the popular Real Housewives shows on Bravo?

No. I never have seen any of them. I don't feel I have missed anything important.

7) In the 1990s, band member Lisa "Left Eye" Lopes was romantically involved with an Atlanta Falcons football player. They shared his upscale, two-story mansion. How would you describe your abode (house, cottage, apartment, condo, studio, etc.)?

I live in what would best be described as a cottage surrounded by about an acre of walnut trees.

8) Ms. Lopes was accused of arson when, after the couple argued, that mansion happened to burn down. When was the last time you lost your temper? How did you express your anger? (If it was with a criminal act, you may wish to keep it to yourself.)

If I lose my temper and flash some anger.... I usually regret what I say and apologize.  I don't care for confrontation so I rarely lose my temper. I grumble a lot.

9) Today the third member of TLC, Chilli, designs personalized handbags. They cost about $225 each. What's the most expensive thing you have bought recently?

I bought some eyeglasses recently and splurged on a frame, and we plan to buy a new compact car next month to tow behind the RV we bought last year.
