Sunday Stealing: The Gal's Meme, Part Two

What did your last text message say? There is an Ikea in Kansas City! Actually it is in Merriam, KS.  DD2 texted back, Really? I need a new couch...Hmmmm.

  Are you someone’s best friend? Tell us about your friendship. Well, other than Mr BC, I have a lot of dear friends, but lately Mr BC and I have been self contained. I have a best friend from High School that I found on Facebook and it was pretty amazing...we talked on the phone for a couple of hours, catching up, and it got to be like we just left each other. That is a cool thing.

  What are you doing tomorrow? Completing paper work for the UC Kansas City, Transplant Center and getting it faxed ASAP.  Mr BCs, Nephrologist, suggested that if we wanted to be considered, we should look into it soon, as, if accepted it could take up to 3years.  He was less than enthusiastic, assuming because of his age...etc. that it might be a longshot that, Mr BC would be accepted.  After testing and conversations all day long, they were pleasantly encouraging, we are not listed yet, but after the paperwork is completed, he will be discussed by the committee. We would have a lot of thinking to do.  It is not a simple procedure.

What do you think of when you think of Australia? Koala bears and kangaroos.  Also lately the internet has been full of pictures of stuff that can kill you....in Australia. 

Last person you talked to on the phone? What about? One of the nurses at the Dialysis center, about his medicine list. I really need to sign him up so we can get medical record our self.  

Any plans today? Do tell.  Not really, Sundays are lazy for us.  

What makes you happy? My grandsons and my puppies.  My spirits are lifted by both.  

What’s your favorite room where you live? My cozy living room and my blackout curtains in the bedroom.  

Biggest annoyance in your life right now? It was fleas, but I got that under control now.  We still have a gnat problem, it's getting better. They aren't fruit flies and I thought they had something to do with the dextrose in Mr BCs dialyses solution.  But yesterday DD2, said she had them as well.  I now that it has something to do with the warm winter we had.....just like the fleas.

 

Last movie you saw? Review, please. We only stream movies...I saw Our Brand is Crisis. A battle-hardened American political consultant is sent to help re-elect a controversial president in Bolivia, where she must compete with a long-term rival working for another candidate. Sandra Bullock and Billy Bob Thornton.  It didn't have the best reviews but it was ok since I wasn't paying for it. DD2 shares HBOgo with us.  It had its comedic moments and the cast was good. Put me in mind of what is probably going on now in the campaigns. The leads were very cynical in what they did as campaign managers, but it had a reasonably happy ending. With Bullock coming out ahead.

If you are jealous of anyone, tell us about it. I don't think so, an answer did not pop into my mind. immediately.  

What is the most serious relationship you’ve had? Mr BC. we did all his evaluation, Friday, our 49th anniversary.

Should anyone be jealous of you? My good marriage, maybe.  

What do you usually do during the work day? Housework, grocery shopping, dialysis procedures...some paperwork,  walking the dogs daily and early, this summer.  TV,  computer, napping....what can I say, I am retired.

  Tell us about someone that you really don’t care for.  One of the members of Mr BCs dialysis....really talks too much.  We roll our eyes every time.

Do you use the phrase “Have a good one” daily? Not really.

  How old do you wish you’d be turning on your next birthday? Why? Well last month I turned 69 and that was okay, maybe start over again at 45 and be retired like I am now. I was still feeling good in my 40's

  

Do you still like amusement parks? Not really. Tell us about your last trip to one. We went with the boys on their first trip to Disneyland and it was nice, but once is enough. Their folks can take them the next time.

How did you get one of your scars? The one on my foot can still make me, quivver...just thinking about it.  When I was in high school...I didn't keep a clean room.  I had broken a picture frame and did not clean up very well.  A large shard was wrapped up in my dust ruffle and when I was dancing around the room, I stepped on it and it pushed thru the bottom of my foot and out right by the ankle.  I tell the weather with that scar.  I have a couple of microsurgery scars as well.

Will you still love me tomorrow? Sure!

Dreaming of Jeannie-Saturday 9

I Dream of Jeannie Theme (1965)... Because Harriet requested it. If you're not familiar with today's song, you can hear it here.   

1) Jeannie was memorably discovered on the beach in an ornate bottle. Have you ever brought a souvenir home from the beach? (It doesn't have to be a genie. A shell or a stone will do.) 
When Mr BC and I were first married we lived in Key West Florida.  My family came to visit that first Christmas and we had a great time doing winter stuff, in Fl, like swimming in the Gulf on Christmas day.
My brother wanted a conch shell that he could 'play' so we found one where they had cut the end off for a mouth piece. It was packed away for the flight home.  I guess there was still some conch meat left in the shell that couldn't be seen but certainly could be smelled......for months.

2) Major Anthony Nelson, the man who released Jeannie from her bottle, was an astronaut. When you were a kid, did you dream of being an astronaut when you grew up? I grew up in the 50's and 60's and girls weren't encouraged to think about such careers. But it was also the days of Star Trek TOS.  I thought that space of the future might be a place I would like to go. 

3) Upon discovering Jeannie, Major Nelson's first wish was that she could speak/understand English so they could communicate. If you found a genie, what would your first wish be? That Donald Trump was not running for president and doesn't win.  And that Elizabeth Warren was running. as the first woman candidate, instead of Hillary.

4) Major Nelson's best friend was fellow astronaut Major Healey. Where did you meet your best friend? In high school gym, Modern Dance Class, I think. I am sure we thought we would grow up to be Martha Graham. Those were the days you took Gym all the way through your senior year, and Modern Dance was for Juniors and Seniors.

5) This theme song was written by Hugo Montenegro, who is better known for the music he wrote for a pair of Clint Eastwood movies (The Good, the Bad and the Ugly and A Fistful of Dollars). Do you have a favorite Clint Eastwood movie? I am not a big fan of Clint Eastwood as an actor, Every Which Way but Loose, with the orangutan, would be my speed.  I think as a director, he does a great job and, of all of those movies, I think Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil. is one of his best. 

6) The last episode of the series was titled, "My Master, The Chili King." What ingredients make up your favorite chili recipe? 
I make a Weight Watchers version of chili, that is mostly beans and vegetables, that Mr BC loves.

7) Jeannie was played by Barbara Eden, who was born in Tuscon, Arizona. Summer in Tuscon can get very hot, with the mercury often reaching 100º. What's your favorite season? 
Not summer in Southwest Missouri, too humid and hot. Probably Autumn is my favorite season.

8) Anthony Nelson was played by Larry Hagman, who went on to play the villainous JR on the popular Dallas. Can you think of anything else Dallas is known for? 
The JFK assassination, is what comes to mind for me.  I was a sophomore in high school when that happened. 

9) In the autumn of 1965, just weeks after I Dream of Jeannie premiered, St. Louis' famous Gateway Arch was completed. An estimated 4 million tourists visit the Arch every year. Do you have any summer vacation plans? 
Well we will be going to the blue grass festival over July 4th. We had our vacation in May. When we went to see the grandsons in Santa Barbara, and a very nice vacation that was. I have seen the Gateway Arch, driving through St Louis, but we have never stopped.

2) It's about that glorious passion you feel when you first fall for someone. How many times have you been in love? Just one time. With Mr Bankerchick.....all the rest have been crushes from long ago.

3) San Francisco radio stations briefly removed "I Feel the Earth Move" from their playlists after the 1989 earthquake. Have you ever been in an earthquake and literally felt "the earth move under your feet?" I am a former CA resident and I remember a lot of the more recent earth quakes.  They have never inflicted any personal damage for me, other that one time some dishes etc. fell out of the cupboards and our TV was knocked of the shelf and was hanging by its cord.
  
4) Carole King is the first and only woman to win the Gershwin Prize for songwriting from the Library of Congress. Here's your chance to brag a little -- tell us about an accolade you have received.  Well, over the years I have been employee of the month, Whoop, Whoop!  

5) Carole wrote "You've Got a Friend," which was a mega hit for her good pal, James Taylor. King and Taylor have known one another for more than 40 years, but have never been romantically involved. Do you have any platonic friends of the opposite sex?  Sure, I have had some men friends.  I don't have any close men friends any more, other than Mr BC.  He is my best Friend, who I have known and loved for many years, but he can't be considered platonic.

6) Like more than 80% of the population, Carole is right handed. Are you right handed, left handed (10%) or that most rare of all, ambidextrous (less than 10%)? I am part of the 80%.  Life can cause problems for the Lefties.  One of the grandsons seems to be a lefty.

7) One of Carole King's earliest hits was Little Eva's "The Loco-Motion." Little Eva was the teenager King hired to care for her young children. Tell us about a sitter who cared for you when you were little.  My Grandparents were generally my baby sitter, and my lovely Aunt Nettie.  Some times, one of my mom's sister.  Always family.

8) Beautiful is the title of the Broadway play about Carole King's life. If we were producing your lifestory, what would you want us to call it?  Maybe....Send in the Clowns.

9) Carole wrote "Pleasant Valley Sunday," the Monkees' song about conspicuous consumption. When Crazy Sam looks at her crowded shelf of hair products (paraben-free conditioner, keratin-restoring conditioner, hair masque, hot oil conditioner …), she realizes she's guilty of it herself. Have you bought anything recently that you later decided was a waste of money?  I bought a Roomba several years ago, which was a real waste of money.  Recently, I have bought some diet products that have been a waste of money as well.  I bought a Thunder Shirt for my puppie, Miss Gwennie that did not work well for her.  I am sure there are more things that I just can't remember.

1.  Do you like avocados? I love avocados and especially guacamole, I love it in salads. I don't eat them much, because when I buy them, I tend to forget about it and they go bad on me.  

2.  Have you ever gone on a roller coaster?  I don't care for them at all. They were pretty scary to me and now I am sure I would just get sick.

3.  Do you do cross stitch, needlepoint, crewel work, or needle punch? I use to do needlepoint and knitting, but it became hard on my eyes.  

4.  Do you cook with gas or electric? This house has a glass top electric stove and it has been hard learning to use it.  If it ever goes out on me I will replace with gas.  

5.  Tell me something good, pleasant, or uplifting. Please.

FRIENDS April A to Z and Saturday 9

1) How did you meet your best friend?
I met Lauretta in my freshman year of high school in Gym and we became friends in our Junior year.  We have kept up with each other over the years. My Best Friend whom I see regularly is Maggie, we have been friends since 1966. Now that we live in the same town we see each other all the time.  I refer to them on my Blog as Maggie and Jigs.

Who is your favorite artist (Any field.): Jean-Claude Picot, he paints lively colors of the Cote D’Azure, I have 2 of his seriolithographs. They are still packed away, one looks similar to the one above. I like them because they have a painting in them similar to the one above.

Describe yourself: I am a short, sweet, slightly overweight Senior Citizen. I have a moderately liberal, independent out look. I tend to be more humanistic in my beliefs. Others can believe in a higher power if they want, as long as they respect that I am unsure. I really don't want their viewpoint on how to believe, impressed upon me.

Silver Dollar City Lights

Our dear friends Maggie and Jigs took us to Silver Dollar City, in Branson, on Thursday for a the Light Show and Christmas celebration.  We had a lovely day for it and as usual had a great time with them.  The City was alight with over four million tiny lights and once night fell it was spectacular.  We went early in the day and saw a couple of shows and took the railroad ride around the park.
