One of my favorite blogs is Tywkiwdbi as the blogger the Minnesotastan  explains the title of the blog: "Tai-wiki-widbee" is an eclectic mix of trivialities, ephemera, curiosities, and exotica with a smattering of current events, social commentary, science, history, English language and literature, videos, and humor. We try to be the cyberequivalent of a Victorian cabinet of curiosities.

Gwennie last Spring-Too Heavy

I did not take pictures of Gwennie before we started this diet 3 weeks ago. I took her to the vet for her shots and a prescription for diet food, when he weighed her she was 50 pounds an all time high.  She is already showing signs of it working because her hips are back and you can see air between her tummy and the ground a Corgi version of thigh gap. I took some pictures of her frolicking in our recent snow so I can make some comparisons before we take her back to the vet for another weigh-in.

It has been snowing since Sunday night and we only got back to walking yesterday.  Mr BC was right I am a grumpy cat (not very nice) when I am cooped up in the house. Even I noticed it this week.  

Had to tell Mr BC to pay attention to the TV....Nancy Grace is on....I can't stand her.  We saw Gone Girl on demand this past weekend and they had a Nancy Grace character in the movie. *Spoiler alert* I wish she got what was coming to her, she was vicious.

Amazon gave me a refund for that book...last week's fragment....and I got a refund and did not have to return the book....that was amazing.

Friday Fragments and Fun

My Atkins Book came this week and I am sorry I did not order it for my Kindle.  The print is so tiny I strain to read it.  I may have to pull out my magnifier glasses.  What I have determined so far is that we have to be careful and count net carbs, which seems to be some vegetables and in various condiments etc.  Also, we have to limit Splenda to 3 packs a day. I won't have to limit real cream for my coffee, but I might have to learn to drink coffee less sweet.

We went on a club ride with Mr BC MGTF Saturday.  Actually we ended up just eating lunch with them at the Antler in Gainesville, Mo.  We missed the meet up as we are still learning our way around Springfield, MO, so we were late.  We had our own leaf-peeping tour finding our way to the restaurant.  I really enjoyed the folks we had lunch with and are looking forward to other events.  The next one is a Christmas party, that should be fun.

Mr BC got the thermostat installed just fine and it worked, but we still had to call for service as the pilot would not stay lit.  Our furnace man was out about 30 minutes after we called and had things warm before we could get too cold.  Gwennie who has a double coat has spent a lot of time outside as this is her type of weather. The rest of us like the warm and toasty house just fine.

There is still an old style, (the one I remember), McDonalds in Downey, CA.
Do you remember the original mascot, a chef named Speedy?  Ronald McDonald wasn't introduced until the 1960's.

This week the weather has been cool again.  It has been a strange July. One week temps in the high 90's and the next week in the 70's.  It has been good dog walking weather for Gwennie and her double coat and of course Totem and Caspar.  When it is hot I try to get out as early as I can. Except for the one rainy day, we have been able to walk in the cemetary, and the local park later in the day. Weather is due to change again next week and be hot.

This was pinned at Pintrest, although I found it on another poster,  I have got to buy some  rubbing alcohol today, and give it a try.  Mr BC is always wanting an ice pack for his aches and pains and prefers the soft ones that are pliable.   I use them on my ankle as well when I have walked too far.  I already have a purchased one that I put in a ziploc when it started leaking. Ziploc bags are the best!

I woke up today and didn't remember right away..... that it was my birthday, until Google and Mr BC told me.  Mr BC sang out Happy DAAA AY to you. That is our Birthday song since DD2 sang Happy DAAA AY to MEEE! when she was 4 years old. He admitted later that he had just seen a reminder on Facebook  It is a disconcerting fact that the interwebs know too much about you.  We hope to go out to dinner for my birthday, tomorrow with DD2!

But this is so true too!

I don't have corgoon.  Just one sweet Gwennie.

"Corgi" is a Welsh word - a compound of cor (“dwarf”) and ci (“dog”).  The proper plural form is thus "Corgwn" -
- which  would be pronounced something like "corgoon."

"I list this as "trivia" because the word has been so Anglicized that "corgis" is in common usage, and your use of "corgwn" in a conversation will be seen as pompous intellectualism, unless perhaps you engage your audience by also sharing some of the other English words derived from Welsh (penguin?)" TYWKIWDBI.

I learned about corgwn from TYWKIWDBI  a blogger I follow for his quite interesting and varied posts. He got it from a QI podcast another QI site I will explore.

This is not a commercial for English Muffins....but, I am so sorry I did not buy two of these as they are to die for and when I go back to get some more, they will not be available.  It really tastes like apple pie.

Random, Randomness - Sunday Stealing

1.  How did you choose your baby's or pet's names?

When we were selecting a name for our corgi, we wanted to pick a Welsh one with some meaning. One of the meanings of Gwendolyn is white circle. Our Gwennie had a white ring around her neck.

This week's questions come from FoxyDanish but she didn't say where she got it. It was labled COLLAPSE but I am not sure why.

Have you ever clicked on an ad on the side of your screen by accident?: All the time.  My computer is very wonky and when I click on a link in google, I sometimes get some advertising spot and not the place I want. I need to have it serviced.

When was the last time you were disappointed?: Nothing comes to mind right now. I guess that we haven't traveled as much as we wanted to in retirement. 

Do you like the smell of rain?: I love the smell of rain and of the air in general, moving from CA to MO has made a real change in air quality, I love to drink in a sunny day.

What was the last thing you took a picture of?: My Furbabies.

When you go to McDonald's, what drink do you usually get?: I love their iced coffee.  It stays strong to the very last sip.

What were you doing today at 2:15 in the afternoon?: Yesterday, I was doing laundry, so I could change the sheets.  I have an 800 thread count set of sheets that I love so I take them off, wash them and make the bed right away.

What's the nickname of your home state?: The Show Me State.

Stormy Weather-Saturday Nine

1) Do noisy storms scare you?
I love Thunder Storms when I am cozy in my house.  They are a little scarier if I am driving or outdoors when it happens. Now the dogs are another story....Totem will be under the couch and Gwennie will be under the bed...and not even food will get them out.

What is your favorite possession?My laptop and my Kindle, if we are talking material goods. I have several items of my mom's that I would really hate to lose or break.

Do you like to read? If so, which books do you love best? Oh yes, I think it is a shame when someone says they never read books, etc.  My favorite author is Jane Austin, I have read every thing she has written and everything written about her, including the vampire spoofs. I love to read science fiction and autobiography.  My favorite book is Little Women, I've read it several times as well. I especially like fiction.

Gwennie loves the new rug

I am pulling together the bones of the new living room.  The before picture of the ugly, old,  broken couch, was taken many months ago.  It is out on the Veranda now awaiting haul off with the old chair and recliner.  I found the rug this week at a furniture store that was going out of business. It was just what I was hoping for, round. Next on the agenda is putting up the new curtains and decorative rods I already have from Ikea.  They have so many choices of  long curtains and I have high ceilings. The couch was easy to assemble and Mr BC and I had it out of the box and put together in about an hour.  I know it is white but has a good review here for durablilty and you can wash and bleach the cover and change your room up by ordering  another cover.  I am looking for side tables  and accessories all the time.
