The Fascination of Fairy Doors

I am going to have to post pictures that inspire me, because I don't have any Fairy Doors of my own.  I have plans to have one in my house before too long, because they fascinate me.  I have always loved miniatures, since I was a kid and my Grandpa made a doll house for me.  These are some inspiration I have seen around the interwebs.

This is one that really has some elaborate accessories, One of the first I ever saw. I don't think my baseboards and walls could stand up to the excavation.  It is charming.  I still believe in Fairy Tales.

You can buy them already made or you can design your own, I will probably buy the little door and paint it myself adding a little bling, maybe.

I have some lovely gnarly Walnut trees in the yard, I could do something like this.  I remember reading someones blog, who wrote about talking a walk and finding a Fairy Door in a tree along her path.  I could go around placing Fairy Doors mysteriously, all around town. (See Video at end of post)
Mine will probably end up looking something like this
In this house I have excellent baseboards.  My winter project is to sand and repaint them, I like the cream color, but they were painted over without priming them first and the paint is peeling badly in many areas.  As soon as I finish I will create my Fairy Door.

  3. I LOVE fairy doors, especially outside in unexpected places. I also love fairy gardens - little mossy places in the woods that look like a playland for fairies.

I love your idea of making a fairy door in your baseboard. It would be so cool to visit a house and discover a tiny door!

  9. That certainly would bring a whimsical feel to your house, wouldn't it? I like the idea of placing them along a path, just so someone else can find them. It would sure make people smile!

  10. You've got me going, after reading about fairy doors and seeing the pictures (loved the one in the tree) I've got a yen to have one. Maybe in the garden somewhere would be good. Hubs might go along with that idea. Heehee I feel a project coming on.

  12. I think that it is a fun idea and really cute. I wonder how you put them in/attach them to the tree without harming the tree? I will have a fun adventure researching more about fairy doors. Thank you for sharing this!

    Have a great week!
