ANOTHER OUTING WITH THE MG CLUB.

We went on our second outing with the club and took a tour of the Belmont
Shores, Los Alamitos bay area and the Long Beach historic homes area. As about 20 vintage MG's went up and down Ocean Avenue you have to know that we drew a lot of looks. Many wanted to know where the show was! It was a lot of fun and a beautiful day. We had some lunch and then went on a boat tour of the Naple's area. We got to see the front doors of the multi-million $ homes instead of the garage door view you see from the street. What fun!

This looked like fun, They havewalkway all around the island so you can look up close. I guess at Christmas there are lights all over the homes and their boats.

This is how the other half of California lives. Statistics say that the middle class in CA is shrinking and soon it will be the upperclass and the class that serves them or class warfare, which ever comes first. We have plans to retire somewhere other than Southern California.

The little cruise was great, were in an
little electric boat not a gondola and the homes beautiful. We got to know some other folks in the group and they all seem very nice. We sat with a younger couple at lunch and the talk was all about love of British cars. His wife and I spoke about obsessions!

Our next trip in September is a Mini GoF (Gathering of the Faithful) in Big Bear for two nights. Mr Bankerchick and I have our reservations and are ready to go. It should be a great opportunity to meet and get to know other folks with some of our interests.

Saturday Photo Hunt Two in Santa Barbara

DD1 and new SIL in 2005, Two starting out on a new life together.

Saturday in Santa Barbara

photo: Ray Ford-Santa Barbara IndependentThis is a photo of the Zaca Fire which has been burning since July 4, in the mountain areas around Santa Barbara, lots of ash has been falling on the town. But no danger to Santa Barbara itself.

We usually come up to SB to visit DD1 every month or so, however, it has been awhile as they have moved to a larger apartment and bought some new furniture and we were waiting until it was ready for them to show off. It's a larger place and very comfortable and with two extra bedrooms and twin beds, (the old Ikea couches) I don't have to sleep with Mr. Bankerchick on a double futon. Very nice, we both got a good nights rest. DD2 is up here for the day too, so as Mr. BC likes to comment, "it's nice to have us all under the same roof again!"

SIL likes to cook so we had a cheese strudelie sort of dish for breakfast and it was delish! Went together very fast with the premade filo sheets and was especially good with the fruit compote DD1 made from Nectarines and white peaches, Yum.

We are going downtown to wander the shops, haven't done that for a while, it is a great downtown....and have some lunch and then decide what to have for dinner. We drove straight from work last night and arrived in time for some wine and good conversation, and we will leave early Sunday a.m. to beat the traffic back home. A great weekend.

Mr BC had to drop Gwennie the Pooch off at our favorite Kennel Friday afternoon, and that was a trauma for him, tho hopefully not the pup. It is the same place where we have always boarded the creatures, had them groomed and now Gwennie is taking training lessons there every Monday night so while she will be tired on Sunday night, she should have had a good time as she is well loved by the folks who work there. She was swept off and taken to the back to show off as soon as the paper work was completed, with her nub of a tail wagging fast.

I promised a review of our Anniversary outing and I can say without hesitation, WICKED was just as great as the review and DD2 has said. I splurged for tickets and we were sitting row D center. We were so close we could see them spit when they sang. Good music, a great story about the wicked witch of the west before Dorothy landed on her sister in OZ. She really was not so wicked as you would think. It's the other side of the story. Very Fun. The restaraunt Pizza Company CA. in San Gabriel was nice but the food was not as great as it use to be, sometimes you can't go home again, but the sound track of our 'courtin days" was on XM radio station playing in the background, with Wolfman Jack did take us back. We drove by the church we were married in and wallowed in nostalgia. Mr BC gave me a 3 diamond necklace for "yesterday, today and tomorrow" and I gave him his IPod he has been hungering after but would not buy for himself. A great day and a great anniversary!

Happy Aniversary

Mr Bankerchick and I are heading out to a matinee of Wicked and dinner at one of our favorite restaurants. Reviews to come.

Photo Hunt: Row

Trying to: get your ducks in a row. Mr. BC took this at our local arboretum and this duck was having trouble getting in a row because she was too busy trying a paper plate on for a hat. She is having fun with the paper plate, but isn't a shame that someone tossed it there for the duck to find. So much for nature's beauty!

Thursday Thirteen

Since I am about to embark on my 41st Year of Marriage on August 12, I thought I would find 13 statements about Marriage from other points of view and other times and places.

1. Man's best possession is a sympathetic wife.
Euripides (484 BC - 406 BC), Antigone
2.
By all means marry; if you get a good wife, you'll be happy. If you get a bad one, you'll become a philosopher.
Socrates (469 BC - 399 BC)
3. Never marry but for love; but see that thou lovest what is lovely.
William Penn (1644 - 1718)
4. Marriage is the only adventure open to the cowardly.
Voltaire (1694 - 1778)
5. I pay very little regard...to what any young person says on the subject of marriage. If they profess a disinclination for it, I only set it down that they have not yet seen the right person.
Jane Austen (1775 - 1817), Mansfield Park
6. I wonder, among all the tangles of this mortal coil, which one contains tighter knots to undo, and consequently suggests more tugging, and pain, and diversified elements of misery, than the marriage tie.
Edith Wharton (1862 - 1937)
7. A successful marriage is an edifice that must be rebuilt every day.
Andre Maurois (1885 - 1967)
8. A simple enough pleasure, surely, to have breakfast alone with one's husband, but how seldom married people in the midst of life achieve it.
Anne Morrow Lindbergh

9. Nearly all marriages, even happy ones, are mistakes: in the sense that almost certainly (in a more perfect world, or even with a little more care in this very imperfect one) both partners might be found more suitable mates. But the real soul-mate is the one you are actually
married to.
J. R. R. Tolkien (1892 - 1973), Letter to Michael Tolkien, March 1941
10. All married couples should learn the art of battle as they should learn the art of making love. Good battle is objective and honest - never vicious or cruel. Good battle is healthy and constructive, and brings to a marriage the principle of equal partnership.
Ann Landers (1918 - 2002)
11. I used to believe that marriage would diminish me, reduce my options. That you had to be someone less to live with someone else when, of course, you have to be someone more.
Candice Bergen (1946 - )
12. A great marriage is not when the 'perfect couple' comes together. It is when an imperfect couple learns to enjoy their differences.
Dave Meurer, "Daze of Our Wives"
13. A successful marriage requires falling in love many times, always with the same person.
Mignon McLaughlin
