Ancient of Days |
I am ancient and yet still young
I wonder why I can't do the things I use to do
I hear a clock ticking in my head, the sand running out of the glass
I want to live forever
I am ancient and yet still young
I pretend that my bones don't hurt
I feel that I am a girl still
I touch the sands of time
I worry that I will miss grandchildrens future
I cry that moments are lost
I am ancient and yet still young
I understand that change is inevitable
I say you can't turn back the hands of time
I dream of the young girl at play
I try to remain always optimistic
I hope I live forever
I am ancient and yet still young
I wonder why I can't do the things I use to do
I hear a clock ticking in my head, the sand running out of the glass
I want to live forever
I am ancient and yet still young
I pretend that my bones don't hurt
I feel that I am a girl still
I touch the sands of time
I worry that I will miss grandchildrens future
I cry that moments are lost
I am ancient and yet still young
I understand that change is inevitable
I say you can't turn back the hands of time
I dream of the young girl at play
I try to remain always optimistic
I hope I live forever
I am ancient and yet still young
I'm not too good with poetry but I will definitely have a go at that. Thanks for passing on the idea.
ReplyDeleteSo true! I'm wiser but definitely don't feel "older"!
ReplyDeleteThis is neat. Thanks for sharing on mamakats.
ReplyDeleteHi Banker Chick,
ReplyDeleteI love your poem, it's so descriptive. You write beautifully.
Thanks for visiting me too! :)
Warm Regards,

I love the poem! It touches thoughts and issues that we all have... wanting to stop time, but knowing it's impossible to do. And trying to fit yourself into the moving, changing time. Very nice!
ReplyDeleteBeautifully done!
ReplyDeleteFor someone who doesn't do poetry, you did a wonderful job! I love this.
ReplyDeleteStopping by from Mama Kats...
ReplyDeleteI like all of these I am poems. Yours makes us ponder what it feels like to realize your age. Keep dreaming and be that young girl at play.
Thanks for sharing,
I can relate to that--perfectly expressed. You get my vote for the best of the bunch this week. kaye—the road goes ever ever on
ReplyDeleteVery pretty. What a nice way to write a poem.
ReplyDeleteThey say that inside every older person is a young person wondering what the heck happened! I feel like that most of the time, too!
ReplyDeleteThe moments lost is a hard one, isn't it? That is one area of my life that causes me the most sadness. My sister died suddenly two years ago and I still have great sadness over the time lost between us prior to her death.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful answers!
That was beautiful...thank you for sharing it. :)
ReplyDeleteSo powerful...
ReplyDeleteThank you for sharing this!
Bittersweet and REAL. Great job with the prompt!
ReplyDeleteI noticed you like the 18th century which I love too! Was reading Frances Burney's Evelina recently and it was SO much better than many of the contemporary stuff floating around these days... :)
This. Was. Awesome.
ReplyDeleteLove the spirit of the poem and, of course, the Avatar. Make me laugh!
This strikes me... reminds me of my parents... my dad had a heart attack this spring and I've watched him have to slow down a lot. Both of my parents are still very active, but its hard to watch them get old.
