Conjuring Up Memories

A suffusion of light warms the sanctuary,
Azure blue mosaics rain down from the dome.
Incense permeates the air,
As the saints overlook the couple, hands raised in blessing.

I smile through my tears, my heart seems about to burst.
The chanting of the choir has stopped and the priest begins.
I do not recognize the language being spoken, but understand the meaning.
Two becoming one, my child no more, a new life together begins.

My memoir prompt this week comes from Assistant Editor Galit.
This week I want you to conjure something. An object, a person, a feeling, a color, a season- whatever you like. But don’t tell me what it is, conjure it

This is what I was conjuring.

  1. I like the idea so much of the saints overlooking your marriage ceremony. What a great moment to choose to share!

  2. That is just beautiful. What a great moment, and I love the mosaics raining down. That and the incense nailed the setting perfectly. Great job!

  3. Thank you, I have been out and about commenting and I am not sure they are taking. I usually get to everyone before the day is out. Thanks to everyone who is visiting.

  4. I love the way you wrote this. At first, I thought this was your wedding, but it was fun to see that it was your grown up child. Very nice!

  5. Ok - while I love the writing . . . the picture is seriously freaking me out.

Obviously, that's an orthodox cathedral - and I'd even venture to guess that it's a Greek orthodox cathedral.

But there are details there which make me wonder if this is my Greek orthodox cathedral.

  7. My daughter's cookies are not enabled so that is keeping me from being able to comment everywhere. But the writing is lovely today.

  10. What a wonderful glimpse into the future. I can't really imagine yet what it will be like to stand up at my son's wedding.
