Beer Barrel Polka-Saturday 9

1) Have you ever danced the polka?
Polka is a folk dance and has a long heritage. At my daughter's wedding and other Serbian events we folk danced.  It is fun to dance at cultural events and a shame that the polka, two-step ect. is sometimes derided.  I imagine under the right circumstances the polka could be just as fun as the hokey pokey or square dancing.

2) Frankie Yankovic was a stellar accordion player. What instrument have you mastered, or would like to learn?
Back in the 50's many kids took accordion lessons. I longed to do it too, but my folks wouldn't put out the funds since they knew me well.  Music lessons take practice.

3) When Frankie died in 1998, his obituary proclaimed him as "America's Polka King." Lucille Ball was "The Queen of Comedy" and Michael Jackson was "The King of Pop." What royal title do you deserve?
I should be the Queen of Everything.  I once had a t-shirt that said that.

4) Do you like light beer?
I don't like light beer, dark beer, any kind of beer.  I captured Mr BC's heart by exclaiming "I love Beer" then proceeded to never drink the stuff again.  He claims I deceived him

5) In 1901, daredevil Annie Taylor successfully went over Niagara Falls in a barrel. She was badly bruised but otherwise fine. How much money would it take for you do to do something that dangerous?
I don't have a dangerous bone in my body so there is no money in the world that would entice me to be a daredevil.

6) When was the last time you visited a pet store?Just last week.  I am in and out of the pet store a couple of times a month, the furbabies usually go with me.  It is a favorite outing for them in the depths of winter. Treats and toys, Bouf!

7) What's your favorite salad dressing?
Ott's World Famous Non-Fat Dressing, so world famous its only available in the midwest.  Good stuff!

8) Sam Winters is crazy about her smart phone. She uses it to take pictures, record videos, listen to tunes, answer emails and surf the net and, oh yeah, she even uses it to make calls. How indispensable is your mobile phone in your day-to-day life?
When we travel/driving, our smart phone is vital. I like being able to find Mr BC when we become separated in a store or someplace with the mobile.  I generally ask "do you have your mobile?" when we leave the house.

9) "Kocham cię" is "I love you" in Polish. Can you say "I love you" in a language other than English (and Polish)?
French and Serbian. Волим те.

  4. I'm sure it wasn't just that you said you liked beer that endeared Mr B to you. ;)

  5. Here in Chicagoland we have a thriving Polish community and so I'm very familiar with the polka. It's a common alternative to The Hokey Pokey and Chicken Dance at weddings. And then there's our local celebrity, Vlasta. She wrote a special polka for Pope John Paul II and performed it for the pontiff when he was in the city for his famous 3 hour mass at Grant Park. She also was on The Tonight Show, back with Johnny Carson.
She was quite the local media sensation!
