The Oscar Goes to.... Boobies!/MKWW

It is easy to say that Seth MacFarlane was Not the Best Host, ever, but equally hard to say he was the Worst Host ever. I am not the audience they were going after with his selection, however to say I did not laugh would be incorrect.  I even laughed at the 7th grade boy humor of the Boobies Song and loved the sock puppets.  MacFarlane is certainly likable, but a lot of his humor is more palatable when coming out of the mouth of Stewie or Ted rather than IN YOUR FACE at the Oscars. Not as bad as Gervaise (who I also think is funny) He certainly pulled off the musical numbers, which I really enjoyed. I wish we could resurrect Bob Hope, he was sly, funny, topical and I don't think anyone came away from the event mad or insulted by him.

Finally, the best you can say about MacFarlane is that he is a great singer, but that he was mostly tasteless and flat with his jokes. If all his jokes weren't offensive enough, he went on to reference George Clooney’s attraction to younger women: “To give you an idea of how young she is (re: Quvenzhane Wallis) " it’ll be 16 years until she’s too old for Clooney.” If that wasn't objectifying a little girl, I am not sure what it might be, certainly insulting to George Clooney.

We don't usually watch the Oscars steadily, but this year we were familiar with most of the movies.
The winners were all gracious and funny and deserved to win and overall I enjoyed the Oscar (I'm glad they changed the name officially) telecast.  My suggestion for next year's host is Jimmy Fallon. He would appeal to everyone and (maybe) not offend anyone too seriously.

  1. I didn't watch the Oscars. Mostly because I have no interest in watching rich and famous people being told how wonderful they are in a public and televised ceremony.

I don't really care for Seth either. Now had the host been Lewis Black... I would have been all over that!

  2. I didn't watch the Oscars (because I was at work, but I probably wouldn't have watched them anyway!).

Jimmy Fallon though? I'd absolutely watch if he hosted.

  3. We haven't watched the Oscars in years, but I was shocked by the choice of host. I like McFarlane, but the better choice would have been someone more mainstream. They were going for the 'shock' I guess. I did get to see the Les Mis number--I had no idea that Russell Crowe could sing!

  4. I too LOVED McFarlane's voice but thought his jokes were flat. I adored all the music though, which more than made up for the slow comedy.

  6. I fell asleep after the 1st hour of the Oscars...yep, bored me all the way to sleep! But I did go back and watch it on Hulu. To the chagrin of my husband and son, my favorite part was the We Saw Your Boobs song. Why on earth did people find that song offensive? It makes no sense! Haha!

My real favorite moment was Daniel Day Lewis' acceptance speech! What a wonderful actor!

    Great post!

  7. Heehee I don't even know if the Oscars was shown over here but I guess it had to be somewhere on the television. My view of celebs is a bit like Missy's... so much hype.

  8. I love the Oscars. Since 40.3 million viewed the show, I think lots of other people care about it, too! While I enjoyed Seth MacFarlane, I think too much is made of the host. For me, it's really about the movies. And this year, the music was stellar! Where else can you see Barbra Streisand, Jennifer Hudson, Shirley Bassey and Adele, all on one show?
