Back to Black-Saturday 9

On your mark, Get set,
Black Friday!
1) Black is this week's signature color because Friday, November 29, was "Black Friday," when retailers cut their prices and consumers flock to the stores. Did you score any "Black Friday" bargains?
I don't do BLACK FRIDAY or Brown Thursday, can't stand that stores opened Thanksgiving day. Get your Store coupon! I have/will order on line again this year.

2) Legend has it that Black Friday began as a neighborhood phenomenon among storeowners in Philadelphia back in the early 1960s. What else comes to mind when you think of Philly?
Benjamin Franklin, The Liberty Bell, and Philly cheese steak sandwiches.

 3) Feasting and football are also popular Thanksgiving weekend pastimes. Do your Thursday-Sunday plans include pigging out or watching a game?
We will work on the left-overs, but won't be watching games.

 4) At Thanksgiving dinners, Crazy Sam's homemade gravy is always a hit. (Probably because she's so generous with the cognac, which gives the gravy a nutty taste.) Do you have a signature dish?
My signature dish is Grandma's Pink Goop. My grandmother always brought a strawberry jello whipped up with a quart of vanilla ice cream to every family dinner including the Wednesday night before Thanksgiving family feast.  One time, when I was about 10 or 11, I asked someone to hand me the Pink Goop and the name stuck. My niece and nephew and kids always ask me if I brought the goop?

 5) Among the biggest the Black Friday advertisers are Target, Kohl's, Macy's and Best Buy. If you could have a $100 gift card to any one of those stores, which would you choose?
Actually, I would prefer a Ross or TJ Maxx card.

6) You're in a public restroom that offers both paper towels and a hot air hand dryer. Which one do you choose? I prefer paper towels.

7) While Back to Black is the best-selling Amy Winehouse CD, her first was called Frank, named for her hero, Frank Sinatra. Tell us about someone you inspires you. I am inspired by folks who give their time and money to help those less fortunate.  It makes me want to be more charitable.

8) Do you consider yourself a pessimist or an optimist?
I am more of an optimist, Mr BC is the closet pessimist in the family.

9) Who was the last person you spoke to on the phone (a verbal conversation -- not an exchange of texts)?
I speak to my grandson, Caшa almost every morning on Skype.  At almost 2 years, he is up early with his mama and as soon as he sees her phone....he shouts out Baba....Deda....Serbian for Grandma and Grandpa.  We call ourselves the English words....but in his own way Baba is easier to say. Dad speaks Serbian, mama and we speak English and he mostly speaks a language all his own.  Ding Dong is open/close, elephant is bam bam as is most other large animals and his scooter is Brummmm brummm.  We get together for five or ten minutes and get lots of smiles and loves.  He tries to hug us thru the screen. So we ask him to hug mama or his monkey or bunny, who are always close by. It brings me real joy and I will be available till he gets too grown up and busy like older grandson Лука.   Dec 17th can't come too soon I miss those boys.

  1. Disappearing fruitcake, its an old family recipe of my grandmas. We reckon its the combination of alcohol and fruit that makes it sink in the middle. Either way the cake vanishes fast, hehe.

  2. I can't identify with most of the questions since we don't celebrate Thanksgiving Day, but as always I loved reading about your grandsons.

  8. Isn't it great that technology makes it easy to stay in great touch with out loved ones far away. I'm glad you take full advantage of it with your grandkids.
I hope the 17th comes quickly for you!

  10. That coupon, and the Guinea pigs, are spot on! I don't leave the house until well after the sales are done, and if I can help it, I don't go near any stores.

  12. I agree. I hate all this grabby materialistic mentality. Makes me want to avoid shopping at all costs.

  13. My signature dish is Gravy too, everyone loves it! TKMaxx is my favourite store, I can always find something different in there.

  14. I think Black Fridays is nuts. Personally, I think all businesses should be closed with the exception of hospitals and other emergency personnel. People should be with their families, especially on Thanksgiving Day. Now, if these select few want to be out in all the madness on Fridays then so be it. I just don't get it. We have ventured out only a few times and that was enough for us. It will take an awful lot to ever get me back into a store on Black Friday again. My preferred method of shopping is online. I avoid all the craziness and it comes to my door. That's pretty simple, eh?
