KALE, Super Inedible-April A to Z

"In case you're not aware, kale—a bitter, cabbage-like vegetable often seen being swallowed by Gwyneth Paltrow—is now the only food worth the trouble of digesting"
-Scott Jacobson-Slate Magazine-

I guess Kale had been around a long time and has a great reputation as a super food.  But I had never heard of it until DD1 tried to introduce it to me last year, as something called kale chips.  Actually she has never been able to serve it to me in a recipe that I could swallow.  It is truly nasty bitter stuff and HORRORS...I don't like it, even if it is good for me. According to Slate Magazine I might be the only one who doesn't eat it.

Since I was introduced to it last year, I can't turn a corner, that I am not assaulted by kale this and kale that. Morning Shows are serving kale Smoothies, kale and pasta, kale and sweet potatoes.  Pintrest, cooking blogs, health food magazines and celebrities all, extolling the benefits of KALE. I still don't like it.

Beside the Slate article mentioned above there is a hilarious piece by way of Mental_ Floss:
Pick up lines for those who love kale… because life is sexier with big leafy greens.

Is that a stalk in your bag or are you just happy to see me.
There’s nothing more fortifying than a mouthful of hearty kale.
Pleasure? I take so much pleasure in growing this.
You are as scrumptious as a good bunch of kale.
I love being filled… with kale’s rich beta carotene.
These kale leaves are big enough to climb under and take a power nap… with you that is.
I’d like to lower your cholesterol with some hot kale.
I’d like to steam YOUR kale… and many, many more.

  2. My daughter likes it, but I hate it! But she also likes tofu, so we've agreed to disagree on favorite foods!

  7. I love kale! Was considering planting it in our garden this year. It's really not that bitter if it is cooked right...

  13. I used to grow it in my vegetable garden and we ate it the southern way, cooked with crispy bacon (some of the grease poured out) and throwing tons of Kale into the searing hot pot and clamping a lid on right away. Yum!
